The Unfinished Teacher: Becoming the Next Version of Yourself helps educators to take an introspective look at their growth and development. This topic is timely due partly to the national teacher shortage and the rampant levels of burnout being reported nationally, including by the National Educators Association. The intent of this book is to help teachers reclaim their “why” and to provide prospective teachers with a view into their professional future. As we continue to reimagine the value of a teacher, we must provide a guide for those in the profession to help them to remain unfinished. Written as a self-help and teacher-focused leadership book, this book does not follow the typical form of an instructional or pedagogical guidebook. This is not a lesson planning book, though the book addresses the need for individual personal, professional, and interpersonal development. Our focus is on helping you create the next version of yourself.

Many adults cite coaches as the adult they remember most from their schooling experience - and that is not always a result of positive interactions. In education, we know the influence and impact coaches have, but there is little, if anything, done to help our coaches grow in any way outside of Xs and Os. Also, there is almost nothing connecting personality archetypes, and the Enneagram in particular, to education. As avid users of Enneagram in our Executive Coaching roles we have seen the profound impact it can have on positively impacting leadership, relationships, and the ability to elicit peak performance. The premise of this book is that student voice is often invisible and that is possibly why schools have changed little since the 19th Century. From digital citizenship to teacher evaluation, we submit that the voice of students can be and needs to be amplified. The authors wrote this book to help elevate the power and influence of student voice in the transformation and leadership of our schools. The authors provide context that helps frame where education has been, where it stands today, and where the authors propose we go in school leadership. To truly transform, schools leaders in the classroom, principal’s office, and district office need to elevate the voice of the student.
