No pod a haber t rmino medio. ENGLISH DESCRIPTION Pola Oloixarac, author of the stunning Savage Theories, takes on cancel culture in this disruptive, incisive, and brilliantly controversial book. "Bad Man is intelligent, brave and extraordinarily well written."- Milena Busquets Pola Oloixarac has been approached numerous times by women bent on punishing men, including former lovers. They denounce these men in scathing terms and demand that the author pick a side: either with her fellow women or the bad men in their lives. There can be no middle ground. Fascinated and sometimes perplexed, Oloixarac considers a system with the power to cast suspicion on virtually anyone, including herself. Informed by her interactions with persuasive and sometimes monstruous individuals, she analyzes the mechanisms of cancel culture and the complexities of sex and desire. Oloixarac has written a controversial and cutting book that examines the tyranny of political correctness and questions some aspects of feminism. But Bad Man is also an intimate and moving novel built on female empowerment that touches on such varied topics as Victoria Ocampo and her lovers, California sex cults, Roko's basilisk and the seemingly unstoppable forces driving new social configurations that simultaneously attract and dismay.

A contemporary classic from one of Latin America's most exciting young writers 'A stunning vibrant maximalist whirlwind of a novel. Oloixarac's wit and ambition are evident on every page' Hari Kunzru Buenos Aires. The mysterious narrator, a student at the School of Philosophy, stalks a middle-aged professor, desperate to reveal that she alone understands his theories. Unable to earn his affection, she instead seduces a former guerilla and toys with him, blurring the lines between prey and predator. At the same university, bored student Kamtchowsky and her boyfriend Pabst's intellectual and sexual misadventures take them through the underground scene of Buenos Aires as they dabble in ketamine, group sex, video games and pornography. And in 1917 Africa, a Dutch anthropologist named Johan van Vliet theorises the development of beast into man, and humanity's longstanding flirtation with beastly acts. Climaxing with an Internet hack that catalogues historical violence, devastation and atrocity throughout the centuries, Savage Theories is a kaleidoscopic collage that is spellbinding, strange and ground-breaking. 'An exuberant blend of political satire and sexual picaresque. This book rewards total immersion: Come for the inevitable Borges allusions, stay for the wild ride' New York Times

From Pola Oloixarac, the critically acclaimed author of Savage Theories and Dark Constellations, comes Mona, in which success as a "writer of color" proves to be a fresh hell for a young Latin American woman at a literary conference in Sweden. Mona, a Peruvian writer based in California, presents a tough and sardonic exterior. She likes drugs and cigarettes, and when she learns that she is something of an anthropological curiosity--a woman writer of color treasured at her university for the flourish of rarefied diversity she brings--she pokes fun at American academic culture and its fixation on identity. When she is nominated for "the most important literary award in Europe," Mona sees a chance to escape her downward spiral of sunlit substance abuse and erotic distraction, so she trades the temptations of California for a small, gray village in Sweden, close to the Arctic Circle. Now she is stuck in the company of all her jet-lagged--and mostly male--competitors, arriving from Japan, France, Armenia, Iran, and Colombia. Isolated as they are, the writers do what writers do: exchange compliments, nurse envy and private resentments, stab rivals in the back, and hop in bed together. All the while, Mona keeps stumbling across the mysterious traces of a violence she cannot explain. As her adventures in Scandinavia unfold, Mona finds that she has not so much escaped her demons as locked herself up with them in the middle of nowhere. In Mona, Pola Oloixarac paints a hypnotic, scabrous, and ultimately jaw-dropping portrait of a woman facing down a hipster elite to which she does and does not belong. A survivor of both patronization and bizarre sexual encounters, Mona is a new kind of feminist. But her past won't stay past, and strange forces are working to deliver her the test of a lifetime.

"A stunning vibrant maximalist whirlwind of a novel. Oloixarac's wit and ambition are evident on every page. By comparison, most other contemporary fiction seems a little dull and simple-minded." --Hari Kunzru, author of White Tears and Gods Without Men A debut novel of seduction and madness, hate and love, set in the world of Argentine academia and animated by the spirits of Wittgenstein, Rousseau, Nabokov and Bola o Rosa Ostreech, a pseudonym for the novel's beautiful but self-conscious narrator, carries around a trilingual edition of Aristotle's Metaphysics, struggles with her thesis on violence and culture, sleeps with a bourgeois former guerrilla, and pursues her elderly professor with a highly charged blend of eroticism and desperation. Elsewhere on campus, Pabst and Kamtchowsky tour the underground scene of Buenos Aires, dabbling in ketamine, group sex, video games, and hacking. And in Africa in 1917, a Dutch anthropologist named Johan van Vliet begins work on a theory that explains human consciousness and civilization by reference to our early primate ancestors--animals, who, in the process of becoming human, spent thousands of years as prey. Savage Theories wryly explores fear and violence, war and sex, eroticism and philosophy. Its complex and flawed characters grapple with a mess of impossible, visionary theories, searching for their place in our fragmented digital world.

Hänet valittiin Grantan parhaiden espanjaksi kirjoittavien nuorten kirjailijoiden listalle loppuvuodesta 2010. Kesyttömät teoriat on Suomen lisäksi ilmestymässä lähiaikoina ainakin Hollannissa, Ranskassa, Italiassa ja Portugalissa.
