Im Verlauf der Rechtsmodernisierung Chinas zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts entstand unter der Qing-Dynastie der Entwurf eines Zivilgesetzbuchs (ZGE), dem das deutsche BGB als Vorlage diente. Einerseits konnten die deutschen Rechtsbegriffe und deren Wortschatz durch die im ZGE neu geschaffene Rechtssprache ins Chinesische ubernommen werden, andererseits diente die Terminologie des ZGE den spateren Zivilgesetzen als Vorbild und pragten das gesamte moderne Zivilrecht Chinas.
