Robust Control-Oriented Linear Fractional Transform Modelling

Robust Control-Oriented Linear Fractional Transform Modelling

Tamal Roy; Ranjit Kumar Barai

SPRINGER VERLAG, SINGAPORE
2024
nidottu
This book covers a new paradigm of system modeling – the robust control-oriented linear fractional transformation (LFT) modeling. A dynamic system expressed in LFT modeling framework paves the way for the application of modern robust controller design technique like µ-synthesis method for controller design. This book covers the generalized robust control-oriented LFT modeling representation of the MIMO system depending upon the uncertainty structure, system dynamics, and the dimensions of the input–output. The modeling framework results into a compact and manageable representation of uncertainty modeling in the form of feedback-like structure that is suitable for design and implementation of the robust control technique like µ-synthesis-based H8 control theory. This book also describes the application of the proposed methodology in a variety of advanced mechatronic systems like the Twin Rotor MIMO system, wheeled mobile robot, and an industrial robot arm.

Block Backstepping Design of Nonlinear State Feedback Control Law for Underactuated Mechanical Systems

Block Backstepping Design of Nonlinear State Feedback Control Law for Underactuated Mechanical Systems

Shubhobrata Rudra; Ranjit Kumar Barai; Madhubanti Maitra

Springer Verlag, Singapore
2018

This book presents a novel, generalized approach to the design of nonlinear state feedback control laws for a large class of underactuated mechanical systems based on application of the block backstepping method. The control law proposed here is robust against the effects of model uncertainty in dynamic and steady-state performance and addresses the issue of asymptotic stabilization for the class of underactuated mechanical systems. An underactuated system is defined as one for which the dimension of space spanned by the configuration vector is greater than that of the space spanned by the control variables. Control problems concerning underactuated systems currently represent an active field of research due to their broad range of applications in robotics, aerospace, and marine contexts. The book derives a generalized theory of block backstepping control design for underactuated mechanical systems, and examines several case studies that cover interesting examples of underactuated mechanical systems. The mathematical derivations are described using well-known notations and simple algebra, without the need for any special previous background in higher mathematics. The chapters are lucidly described in a systematic manner, starting with control system preliminaries and moving on to a generalized description of the block backstepping method, before turning to several case studies. Simulation and experimental results are also provided to aid in reader comprehension.

Legged robots are a promising locomotion system, capable of performing tasks that conventional vehicles cannot. Even more exciting is the fact that this is a rapidly developing field of study for researchers from a variety of disciplines. However, only a few books have been published on the subject of multi-legged robots. The main objective of this book is to describe some of the major control issues concerning walking robots that the authors have faced over the past 10 years. A second objective is to focus especially on very large hydraulically driven hexapod robot locomotion weighing more than 2,000 kg, making this the first specialized book on this topic. The 10 chapters of the book touch on diverse relevant topics such as design aspects, implementation issues, modeling for control, navigation and control, force and impedance control-based walking, fully autonomous walking, walking and working tasks of hexapod robots, and the future of walking robots. The construction machines of the future will very likely resemble hydraulically driven hexapod robots like the ones described in this book – no longer science fiction but now a reality.
