When all communications are lost with an offshore privately run youth correction facility, two educational inspectors head off to work out what has happened. They get more than they bargained for in this tale which explores big issues for young people. Sent to the island for 'behaviour modification', some of the pupils have staged a rebellion sparked by a singular dramatic event, while others simply wanted to keep their heads down and leave after they have gone through 'the programme'. This text will spark not only strong performances from teenagers, but also debates about the rights and wrongs in the script - it will see readers and performers asking the question "what would I have done?" This version of Hope Springs is adapted for younger actors; it touches on some big themes but addresses them more obliquely than the more hard-hitting original.

Everything is going Martin's way. The holidays have started, he's got a gorgeous girlfriend and everyone agrees he's the coolest dancer around. But when his world is turned upside down by a crash in a stolen car, he has to come to terms with more than his facial injuries.
Hope Springs is a correctional facility for teenagers. Sent to the remote island by their parents, students are subjected to draconian discipline in the attempt to 'cure' them of their delinquent ways. When communication with the island breaks down, two inspectors turn up to discover the students have taken over the island. The students confront the regime, their experiences and the tragedy which resulted in the students taking matters into their own hands. A thrilling play for use in either English or Drama. The script can be studied for: * author's craft * plot * structure * characterisation * analysis of language * performance text * creating dramatic tension and suspense.
