Cindy Lost was an ordinary girl with an ordinary mother. That is, until she set the cat's tail on fire by waving a stick at him. After that everything became weird. Gnomes coming out of her mother's glass cabinet, being just one example, and large Black birds asking to be let into the house being another. Her introduction into a world of enchantment and all things magical was tempered by the knowledge that something evil was lurking there. Finding out that her mother was not as she seemed to be, and was suspected of being the infamous Black Witch, Cindy set out to unmask the real culprit, and prove her mother's innocence.

Humanity had been at war with Humanity for fifty years when a greater threat, in the form of the Shi-az-ee, came along.The Shi-az-ee blamed Humanity for an atrocity that they did not commit, and embarked on a holy war, vowing to destroy them all.Due to public pressure in both systems of humanity, the war between them came to an end, and the combined fleets turned their attention to the Shi-az-ee.But hidden in an unlikely place, lurked the true enemy, waiting and watching, and seeking its revenge.

Several other puzzles arrive over the next few weeks, and each time a body is discovered less than a day later. Margaret is devastated, when her dearest friend Samantha is also named and then later turns up dead. Six times she receives a puzzle, and six times someone dies. The Police and Margaret, have no leads at all, and are at their wits end, particularly when a copycat leads them briefly down the wrong track. Six murders are now attributed to the person that they have called 'The Wordsearch Murderer', but everyone is stunned when a seventh puzzle is received, and it names Margaret Dexxman as the intended victim. Margaret and her friends must now utilise all of their skills, and not a small amount of luck, as they struggle against the odds to keep her alive.
