The need for precise, actionable, real-time Business Intelligence (BI) lies at the heart of the role of Big Data in modern commerce. In turn, the art of "Data Science" lies at the nexus of Big Data and BI, providing the essential methods by which BI can be extracted from Big Data's great black mass of constantly flowing, unstructured information. This combination has a created a new profession: an elite and specialized class of highly-compensated professionals specially skilled at data cleaning, analysis, and visualization. We call them Data Scientists, and their evolving role in the organization is one about which managers must have a clear understanding. As shown in WHAT EVERY MANAGER SHOULD KNOW ABOUT BIG DATA AND DATA SCIENCE, integrating data scientists (and the general practice of Data Science) with the organization is often a delicate process involving the redefinition of traditional roles within the enterprise as well as dealing with issues of territoriality amongst peers. To accomplish this task, managers need a firm knowledge of the what and whys of Data Science, the specific BI needs it is uniquely positioned to service, and the processes by which it functions. Such is the knowledge this important book provides. Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, was founded in 1352 by the religious Guilds of Corpus Christi and the Blessed Virgin Mary, making it the only college in Oxford or Cambridge to be established by the town's citizens. Robert Masters (1713–1798), a fellow of Corpus and member of the Society of Antiquaries, published this history in 1753. Divided into two parts, the work gives a full account of the college's establishment. The first section explains the role of the guilds and lists the college's early benefactors and college masters from the foundation to Masters' own day. The second section, organised alphabetically, focuses on the most distinguished members of the college, with brief descriptions of them. This comprehensive and illustrated account of the college's foundation and development to the eighteenth century will appeal to anyone interested in the history of Cambridge University and its colleges.
One of the most important books written on the effects of LSD on the human psyche. - Its authoritative research has great relevance to the current debate on drug legalization. - Prolific authors Robert Masters and Jean Houston are pioneer figures in the field of transpersonal psychology and founders of the Human Potentials Movement. "The Varieties of Psychedelic Experience" was published in 1966, just as the first legal restrictions on the use of psychedelic substances were being enacted. Unfortunately, the authors' pioneering work on the effects of LSD on the human psyche, which was viewed by its participants as possibly heralding a revolution in the study of the mind, was among the casualties of this interdiction. As a result, the promising results to which their studies attested were never fully explored. Nevertheless, their 15 years of research represents a sober and authoritative appraisal of what remains one of the most controversial developments in the study of the human psyche. Avoiding the wild excesses taken by both sides on this issue, this book is unique for the light it sheds on the possibilities and the limitations of psychedelic drugs, as well as on the techniques for working with them. With drug legalization an increasingly important issue, "The Varieties of Psychedelic Experience" provides a welcome and much needed contrast to the current hysteria that surrounds this topic.
