This book throws light on the cultural beliefs and practices of people regarding body image its growth and development, people's perception regarding the origin and cause of a musculoskeletal disorder, the therapies they prefer, the nature and role of traditional bone setters as well as orthopaedic experts, the health seeking behavior of people, the ethno-nutritional beliefs and practices they associate with Orthopaedic treatment and so on.

The Indian population still has several vulnerable groups amongst the Scheduled Castes, Tribes and Nomadic societies. Vulnerable groups are the most dispossessed, socially discriminated, exploited, deprived, ignored and socio-economically very backward as compared to other societies in the country. The authors have observed that the vulnerable groups are marginalised and landless communities, who often get seasonal employment in the unorganized sector. The owners and the middlemen often exploit these unfortunate labourers.
