The untold story of the visionary designer who redefined Hollywood glamour, elevating costume design into a true art form. Jean Louis's creations illuminated more than 180 films across three decades and resulted in some of the most remembered garments during Hollywood's Golden Age--from Rita Hayworth's smoldering satin column dress in Gilda to Marilyn Monroe's iconic nude illusion gown worn to sing "Happy Birthday" to President Kennedy. Jean Louis: Hollywood's Bombshell Designer features dozens of film stills, fashion sketches, and movie posters illustrating the career of an artist that helped define the femme fatales, showgirls and ing nues of American cinema's most famous films. Arriving at a timely moment amid a renewed resurgence surrounding Marilyn Monroe's legacy as her centennial approaches in 2026--an anniversary sure to heighten fascination with Old Hollywood style and the ever present influence of Jean Louis on the modern red carpet: Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, Beyonce, Sydney Sweeney, and Rihanna have all channeled Jean Louis' bombshell styles recently and Kim Kardashian made headlines when she wore Monroe's Jean Louis gown to the Met Gala. A tribute to craftsmanship, beauty, and style, the book stands as a glamorous testament to the enduring brilliance of Jean Louis and the timeless spell of Hollywood's most radiant era.

Pittman was not just an observer but was an active participant in the places and events that shaped pop culture as we know it the goings on at Andy Warhol s Factory, the women s liberation movements of the 1970s, the VIP room at Studio 54, and the nascent punk scene at CBGB s and The Mudd Club. Richard Bernstein, a fixture at Studio 54 and with fashion and art insiders, captured the allure of the disco era through his iconic hyper-coloured graphic portraits of superstars for the covers of Andy Warhol s Interview magazine. Warhol s influence on Bernstein s bold, playful, and graphic artwork is evident, and it was often thought that Warhol created the covers himself. Yet it was Bernstein, an American artist and art director, whose distinctive craft of retouching photographs with pastels, stencils, and airbrushing monumentalized his subjects into dazzling pop-art incarnations sexy, captivating, and forever young. The book features his legendary Interview covers of Madonna, Grace Jones, Mick Jagger, Cher, Calvin Klein, Michael Jackson, and Aretha Franklin, and Bernstein s rarely seen fine artwork, album covers, and editorial work for Time, Vogue Italia, New York Magazine, and Playboy, complete with intimate anecdotes and interviews with his closest friends and collaborators. This volume is an essential addition to any fashion, pop culture, style, or art lover s library.

The Stephen Sprouse Book

Inventive, enigmatic, and supremely creative, Stephen Sprouse made art and clothing that captured the mood of the eighties. One of the first American designers to mix graffiti and a punk aesthetic with fashion, Sprouse manipulated conventional notions of style, and his unique sensibility has inspired designers from John Galliano to Raf Simmons to Marc Jacobs. Sprouse s career started in the late seventies, when, after working for Halston, he migrated to a warehouse on the Bowery and started making outfits for his neighbor, Debbie Harry. The fashion world quickly embraced his innovative, culturally relevant sensibility and downtown edge. But Sprouse s inability to compromise his artistic vision for the rigid fashion business compromised his commercial success. The Padilhas possess the largest private collection of Sprouse s work, and were given exclusive access to his archives by his family for this project. They also obtained never-before-published images from photographers such as Steven Meisel, Bob Gruen, and Mert and Marcus. The book features a foreword by the novelist Tama Janowitz, one of Sprouse s closest friends. The release of this book coincides with a retrospective at Deitch Projects. The book will be available with four different jackets, each featuring a different Day-Glo color, an homage to Sprouse s iconic album cover for Debbie Harry s Rockbird.
