Explore IoT, data analytics, and machine learning to solve cyber-physical problems using the latest capabilities of managed services such as AWS IoT Greengrass and Amazon SageMakerKey FeaturesAccelerate your next edge-focused product development with the power of AWS IoT GreengrassDevelop proficiency in architecting resilient solutions for the edge with proven best practicesHarness the power of analytics and machine learning for solving cyber-physical problemsBook DescriptionThe Internet of Things (IoT) has transformed how people think about and interact with the world. The ubiquitous deployment of sensors around us makes it possible to study the world at any level of accuracy and enable data-driven decision-making anywhere. Data analytics and machine learning (ML) powered by elastic cloud computing have accelerated our ability to understand and analyze the huge amount of data generated by IoT. Now, edge computing has brought information technologies closer to the data source to lower latency and reduce costs. This book will teach you how to combine the technologies of edge computing, data analytics, and ML to deliver next-generation cyber-physical outcomes. You'll begin by discovering how to create software applications that run on edge devices with AWS IoT Greengrass. As you advance, you'll learn how to process and stream IoT data from the edge to the cloud and use it to train ML models using Amazon SageMaker. The book also shows you how to train these models and run them at the edge for optimized performance, cost savings, and data compliance.By the end of this IoT book, you'll be able to scope your own IoT workloads, bring the power of ML to the edge, and operate those workloads in a production setting. What you will learnBuild an end-to-end IoT solution from the edge to the cloudDesign and deploy multi-faceted intelligent solutions on the edgeProcess data at the edge through analytics and MLPackage and optimize models for the edge using Amazon SageMakerImplement MLOps and DevOps for operating an edge-based solutionOnboard and manage fleets of edge devices at scaleReview edge-based workloads against industry best practicesWho this book is forThis book is for IoT architects and software engineers responsible for delivering analytical and machine learning–backed software solutions to the edge. AWS customers who want to learn and build IoT solutions will find this book useful. Intermediate-level experience with running Python software on Linux is required to make the most of this book.
Investigating the Benefits and Drawbacks of Realigning the National Guard Under the Department of Homeland Security
Whereas the role of the federal military is clearly defined and limited in the spectrum of domestic operations, the National Guard, as a state or federal asset depending on duty status designation, assumes a more dynamic, multi-spectrum support role. This multi-spectrum role sometimes puts the Guard at the center of a contentious command power struggle between the states and federal government; a power struggle that has led to a growing debate over the role of the National Guard during domestic operations, with some questioning whether the Guard is better aligned to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), rather than the states, for domestic operational requirements. This monograph, by Dr. Ryan Burke and Dr. Sue McNeil, attempts to evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of a hypothetical realignment of the National Guard to the DHS. Drawing from interviews with a range of subject matter experts primarily from the National Guard and the DHS, Burke and McNeil first address the pros and cons of such...

This ebook serves as an introduction to the sometimes bizarre and disturbing country of North Korea. The country of North Korea, formally known as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has existed only since September 9th, 1948, when Kim- Il Sung took power, and his constitution was adopted. Before then, it has a long history of kingdoms and colonialism. Moreover, it is important to remember that the history of North Korea before 1948 is inseparable from that of South Korea. First, this book will describe how the country came to be, including elements from past eras that helped shape the North Korean ideology of today. Next, I will describe in detail the ideology established by Kim -Il Sung, known as Juche, describing how it handles economics, foreign relations, and the control of the people. I will next address the persistent hunger and famine situation in North Korea. I will describe the culture of the North Koreans, paying attention to how the cultural factors before Kim- Il Sung interacted with the establishment of Juche. The daily life of a North Korean citizen will be explained and how policies put forward by the ruling party have affected them over recent decades. Finally, I will discuss the current conflict surrounding North Korea's controversial nuclear arms program and their current provocations on the world stage. The chapters of the book include: History: How Juche Came To Be Juche Ideology Famine of the 1990's Daily Life of A North Korean International Relations and Nuclear Weapons Program North Korea has had a tumultuous history and with the growing possibility of famine along with stricter sanctions from the United Nations, the hermit Kingdom is truly becoming desperate. The economic improvement and well-being of Latin America has been debated for decades and will continue to be if no significant change is made. An integration of Latin American countries has the potential to benefit the region economically, politically and socially. Free trade unions would help to increase competition and innovation, allowing the average consumer to purchase better quality products at lower prices, thus overall driving economic growth. These changes would increase social welfare and increase the standard of living for the citizens of participating countries. This agreement could take the form similar to that of the current European Union which would help foster foreign investment. Many Latin American countries would thrive from foreign investment so showing unity between the nations to help strengthen their economies could give foreign investors more faith in gaining a return from their investment. It would also help curb worries of corruption and unstable political situations. Overall, the integration of the Latin American countries to form a cooperative economy could help some of the weaker economies improve and the stronger economies maintain their economic capabilities. If you have ever wanted to know more about the political economic situation of Latin America over the last 100 years, this is the book for you Specifically the book will cover the following topics: Chapter 1 Introduction Chapter 2 Raul Prebisch Chapter 3 Economic Policy over the Last Century Chapter 4 Debt Crisis and the IMF Chapter 5 Attempts at State and Market Unity Chapter 6 Attempts during the 20th Century Chapter 7 Economic Blocs Chapter 8 MCCA Chapter 9 ALBA Chapter 1o Common Currency: Benefits & Reservations Chapter 11 UNASUR Chapter 12 MERCOSUR So if you want to learn about the politics, economic situations and potential for the future of unification of Latin America, scroll to the top and purchase my book Thank you and all the best
Maturing Defense Support of Civil Authorities and the Dual Status Commander Arrangement Through the Lens of Process Improvement
During large-scale emergencies or disasters, National Guard forces regularly operate alongside Active Component forces in response to requests from civil authorities. In an attempt to promote unity of effort between state-controlled National Guard and Active Component forces, states and the Department of Defense agreed to use dual status commanders-military commanders authorized by law to serve in both state and federal statuses simultaneously-as the primary command and control mechanism during unplanned incident response operations. This unique command arrangement was used for the first time in response to an unplanned incident during Hurricane Sandy in October 2012. Though the arrangement worked well in many ways, there are definitely opportunities for improvement.

The military response to Hurricane Sandy was historically significant. For the first time, dual status commanders-military commanders authorized by law to serve in both state and federal status simultaneously- were activated in an effort to unify state and federal efforts under a single command structure during an unplanned response. The events that occurred over the 2-week response period provide a basis for lessons learned as we look to improve upon this first attempt to use this unique command construct in response to an unplanned incident. In this monograph, Mr. Ryan Burke and Dr. Sue McNeil discuss the results of their year-long case study examining the military response to Hurricane Sandy under the dual status commander arrangement. In one of the most thorough and comprehensive analyses of the subject to date, Burke and McNeil first address the chronology of the storm and the ensuing military actions.
