This book is one of a collection of scripture readings for daily study, together with a selection of themed verses for meditation, either in isolation or as part of a regular prayer regime. This particular book contains additional readings for Advent, in which we prepare for the coming of our Lord at Christmas, Christmas itself and the days immediately after, which can be read in conjunction with the volumes covering November, December and January. Each day there is a selection of readings for morning and evening - there is no need to read both because they are independent but complimentary to each other. There is also a selection of Psalms, one or more of which can be included as a prayer or meditation. We pray that this book will help provide a methodical study of the wonderful treasure of the Bible and enrich our prayers.

This book is one of a collection of scripture readings for daily study, together with a selection of themed verses for meditation, either in isolation or as part of a regular prayer regime. The readings are based on a traditional lectionary and are based on the date, rather than the liturgical year. This means that the collection can be used year after year, not being specific to any one year. It also means that the readings will often be different to those used in church services, further broadening our Bible study experience.Volume 13, the Special Edition, contains additional readings for special occasions, such as Advent, Lent and Easter, and Volume 14, The Journey to the Cross, is a specific Lenten meditation including the prayers of the Early Christian Church. In this way the whole collection of 14 books complete a beautiful and invaluable permanent devotional tool, capable of being used year in year out, lasting a lifetime. Each day there are readings and meditations for morning and evening - there is no need to read both because they are independent of each other but they do follow each other in a sequence. The morning readings include a reading from the Book of Psalms and the evening readings a text from my translation of The Imitation of Christ, by Thomas Kempis, for meditation and to help us develop the spiritual side of our walk in Christ. We pray that these books will help provide a methodical study of the wonderful treasure of the Bible and enrich our prayers.

This book is not a commentary, but a series of readings and reflections upon The Acts of the Apostles. It is not intended to be exhaustive, merely a sharing of thoughts based upon my own daily reading of the Bible over the last few years. It is published in the hope that others might find it useful in their own Bible reading programmes and draw inspiration from it.The author of the Acts of the Apostles is not named but, according to Church tradition it is generally considered that he was the "Luke" named as the companion of the apostle Paul. This is supported by the fact that parts of the book are written in the first person plural, suggesting that the author was a travelling companion of Paul whilst he was on his missionary journeys. The author claims in his opening preamble that he was the author of the Gospel of St. Luke, so this assumption appears to be founded on relatively safe ground. The account concludes with the imprisonment of Paul in Rome, in approximately 63AD, which would suggest it was written at some point between then and the end of the first century.

I first read this wonderful little book by Thomas of Kempen many years ago. Reading it again more recently, I realised that it was a book so important to the spiritual growth of all Christians that it should grace every bedside table In making this translation, I have tried to be true to the essential spiritual truths contained in the original whilst making the language slightly more vibrant for today's readers. This book is not intended to be, therefore, a word for word translation but, instead, a book that captures the message and relays it sympathetically. It is my hope and prayer that you will obtain as great a blessing from reading this book as I received in its writing
