The Bible Never Says It Will Be Okay. The Bible is largely silent on the topic of grief, which surprises most people; contrary to popular belief, the Bible never says things will be okay--that the pastures greener on the other side. Further, the Bible never says God won't give us anything we can't handle. That's a proverb man made up. When it seems hopeless there's a reason: this might be a trial we cannot handle. It's natural to feel bleak about the future because the future is one thing God never promises will be better--better on Earth, at least. The Bible is, of course, full of people undergoing hardship; but there's never a formula for getting through those hardships. The Book of Job did something thousands of years ago that broke the mold of grief: it said bad things don't happen because you did something bad. The Book of Job was radical in that it took out the logic of loss--it said don't look for the logical argument for why bad things happen; look to the healing. If you are seeking the "why" you will not find the answers in Job; you will not find it anywhere in the Bible. But if you want to heal your soul, then there's a powerful message reading how Job deals with grief.
Setting the Pace: Seven Practices for the Ministry Marathon
The image of ministry in the New Testament is that of a marathon. Not only do we have to make sure that we get off to a good start in a marathon, we have to make sure we maintain our pace. In ministry, we can often find ourselves struggling to keep up or feeling ineffective. In Setting the Pace, Scott Douglas lays out seven practices that any ministry leader can do at any part in the ministry race to finish the race well.

Everyone knows that running builds stronger muscles and a healthier heart. In Running Is My Therapy, longtime runner Scott Douglas shows how endurance running is also the best form of exercise to develop a healthier brain. A natural antidepressant, running reinforces the benefits of therapy and triggers lasting, positive physiological changes. In fact, some doctors now “prescribe” a running regimen as part of their first-line treatment plan for depression. Marshaling expert advice and a growing body of research, Douglas explains how we can all use running to improve mental health—and live happier.

There’s no other book like this. Longtime running writer Scott Douglas marshals expert advice (especially his own, cultivated from more than 110,000 miles of personal experience), and a growing body of scientific research to show how running can make us happier. How? Everyone knows that running builds stronger muscles and a healthier heart; science now shows it also helps develop a healthier brain. For those struggling with depression and anxiety, a consistent running routine can enhance the mental-health benefits of talk therapy, antidepressants, and cognitive behavioral therapy. The key to running’s therapeutic power lies in its lasting physiological effects, inducing changes in brain structure and chemistry that other forms of exercise don’t - including the best mood boost in all of sports, thanks to the body’s release of natural pain-relievers. Running is my therapy is no longer just a mantra for seasoned runners; with science behind him, Douglas presents proven methods so that we can all use running to improve our mental health and live happier - in and out of running shoes.
#OrganicJesus – Finding Your Way to an Unprocessed, GMO–Free Christianity
If Generation Next is supposed to question everything and trust no one, where does faith fit in?Consumers demand that their food be pesticide--free, their cosmetics and shampoo be paraben-free, and that everything possible--from clothes to toilet paper--be made without additives or chemicals. But there's nothing that has more additives to the original product than Christianity. How do we get back to the 100% organic version of Jesus? In his personal search for the organic Jesus, Scott Douglas goes on a funny, thought--provoking romp through the foundations of belief. Christianity, he says, has become a simulacrum--a bloated, overprocessed image that lacks the true substance of the real thing. His search for the original took him far and wide through historical Christ figures, urban legends, odd facts about the faith, freakishly flawed Christians, and the Internet. Using relatable, contemporary anecdotes, and unlikely wisdom concealed within humor, Douglas reveals a way back to the authentic essence of following Christ.By including "wiki" breaks, social media callouts, quizzes, charts, and more, #OrganicJesus is ideal for readers raised on social media who can't step out of their house without tweeting about it or eat lunch without posting on Instagram. Douglas is careful to be as non--biased as possible, writing not for any particular agenda--political or otherwise--but instead encouraging readers to seek their own path for spiritual renewal. The result is a candid look at modern Christianity that will challenge savvy young Christians to put as much effort into discovering sustainable religion as they do in their pursuit of an organic marketplace.

With his historic win at the 2014 Boston Marathon, Meb Keflezighi cemented his legacy as one of the great champions of long-distance running. Runners everywhere wanted to know how someone two weeks away from his 39th birthday, who had only the 15th best time going into the race, could defeat the best field in Boston Marathon history and become the first American man to win the race in 31 years. Meb For Mortals describes in unprecedented detail how three-time Olympian Keflezighi prepares to take on the best runners in the world. More important, the book shows everyday runners how to implement the training, nutritional, and mental principles that have guided him throughout his long career, which in addition to this year's Boston win includes an Olympic silver medal and the 2009 New York City Marathon title.

CUNT, Scott Douglas' introspective look into understanding a friends suicide is written in his distinct style: delicate, lucid, and though very sad, reminds us all of the true strength of love. There are his apparent and the not so obvious glances into what might have been had his friend simply found love. In a fashion that is inimitably Scott Douglas, the world receives another book of prose. Once again, every page stands on its own. There is so much we find out about ourselves in a single word. Many times when we race to define what one word may mean we define ourselves. Who we are is often lost in the details or what we think about others. It's just a word. There was simply nothing about her or her name that defined who she was. Millions could have found her face if they had looked clearly. They had been searching all their lives for her but never saw her. Her name was not spoken. Her voice was not heard. She was lost in the definitions of others.
