Living about 2500 BC, in the shadow of the rising tower of Babel, Alera and Jotham have been best friends since childhood. They just want to marry each other and live happily ever after. But King Nimrod has other plans and is determined to make Alera his Queen. The feisty, knife-throwing, sometimes over-cocky Alera must convince the king to butt out of her life, while Jotham struggles to survive the king's rage and jealousy.As she faces trial after trial, Alera's meager faith in the idol gods of her people wanes and she and Jotham begin to discover the "one true God".
