Sextus Propertius

Sextus Propertius föddes i Umbrien nära Assisi omkring år 50 före vår tideräkning. Han avled endast 35 år gammal. Diktningens centralgestalt är den mytiska Cynthia, lika skön som lättsinnig och trolös. Var hon gift, prostituerad eller helt uppdiktad? Man kan idag inte säkert säga. Propertius dikter gestaltar älskarens alla kval. Från glödande extas, hyllningar till hennes skönhet, men också djupaste svartsjuka, vilda gräl och våldsamma utbrott. Ingvar Björkeson har översatt till svenska och poeten Marie Silkeberg har skrivit ett förord till utgåvan.
