Through a thorough review of the DMC literature, the book furnishes readers with a theoretical framework to comprehensively grasp the underlying constructs of L2 student DMC competence. It also provides a delineation of the process of scale development, i.e., defining constructs, constructing items, and analyzing items, scale validation, i.e., the structural, external, and consequential construct validity of the scale, and scale utilization in students’ DMC self- and peer-assessment practices. This book incorporates both practice-based information and research to underpin teachers' emotions in the teaching and learning settings of second language (L2) writing, in the Chinese tertiary educational context. It introduces and validates a new conceptual framework for evaluating the causes and effects of the emotions of L2 writing teachers and investigates their emotional experiences in the context of the classroom. Additionally, it demonstrates the mediating effect of emotion-regulation strategies on L2 writing teachers’ pedagogical practices, writing assessment practices, teacher–student relationships, and well-being. Finally, this book provides theoretical, practical, and pedagogical implications of emotion regulation and management in order to implement the L2 writing curriculum.

This Element traces the evolution of peer assessment in writing instruction and illustrates how peer assessment can be used to promote the teaching and learning of writing in various sociocultural and educational contexts. Specifically, this Element aims to present a critical discussion of the major themes and research findings in the existing studies on peer assessment regarding the three assessment paradigms (assessment of, for, and as learning), and to identify whether and how peer assessment has served the purposes of assessment of, for, and as learning, respectively in writing instruction. This Element highlights the contextual factors that shape the effect of peer assessment in writing instruction and concludes with directions for future research and implications regarding how peer assessment can be successfully used to improve students' writing development.
