Mae'r gyfrol arloesol hon yn cyflawni dwy amcan. Yn gyntaf - ac am y tro cyntaf - mae'n cynnwys hanes lleiafrifoedd ethnig oddi mewn i'r diwylliant Cymraeg, a hynny o ddyddiau Macsen Wledig hyd heddiw. Yn ail, mae'n dehongli amlethnigrwydd o safbwynt Cymraeg yn hytrach na Saesneg, sy'n arwain at y cwestiwn, 'Pwy yw'r Cymry?' Yn ogystal a'r hanes cyffredinol, ceir penodau am y Sipsiwn Cymreig, Gwyddelod yng Nghymru, amlethnigrwydd cefn gwlad, y Cymry fel lleiafrif ethnig yn Lloegr, a hiliaeth yn erbyn pobl ddu. O ran ei syniadaeth, mae'r gyfrol yn neilltuol gyffrous, a thrafodir pethau mor amrywiol a chenedlaetholdeb a hil, perthynas y Cymry a threfedigaethedd a chaethwasiaeth, Saeson Cymraeg, gwleidyddiaeth iaith, ac amrywiaeth mewnol mewn diwylliannau lleiafrifol. Daw'r gyfrol i ben gan ofyn ai'r Cymry yw pobl frodorol Ynys Prydain. Mae'r cwbl yn rhan o brosiect ehangach yr awdur i geisio ailddehongli'r diwylliant Cymraeg o'i gwr.

Originally published in 1986. This helpful text sets out what appears to make exchange rates change and shows how these various factors contribute to an explanation of the past. It considers the problems of providing satisfactory forecasts of the exchange rate while presenting the methods used, outlining their drawbacks and speculating on future ways forward. Laid out to move from empirical issues to theory and on to policy, this book is easily of use to those interested in macroeconomics, applied economics and international economics as well as economic history.

Uncommon folktales and a few old favorites revived and retold for young people and tradition keepers. Folk and fairy tales celebrate different cultures and ways to see the world.A collection of the author's favorite folktales from his professional storytelling repertoire, retold in contemporary jargon for young reader, UNDER THE OAKEN BOUGH is an anthology which breathes new life into the folk and fairy tales of old. Professional storyteller, Simon Brooks, has written the stories he loves to tell in the style he uses on stage, whether at a library, school, college, private event or festival. Each story concludes with brief notes about the tale. This wonderful little book is a must have, not just for young people entering the realm of folk and fairy tales for themselves, but for parents who love to read to their children, teachers and librarians. The book includes a Q & A section with the author, a guide on how to tell stories, suggested reading, and a list of vocabulary words and their meanings. Half of the eighteen stories come from Europe, the remainder from the rest of the world. Some of these stories are old favorites, but inside you will find stories which can be hard to find, and seldom told. Join Simon Under the Oaken Bough and step into another realm, far, far away.
Written as an act of protest in a Welsh-speaking community in north-west Wales, Why Wales Never Was combines a devastating analysis of the historical failure of Welsh nationalism with an apocalyptic vision of a non-Welsh future. It is the ‘progressive’ nature of Welsh politics and the ‘empire of the civic’, which rejects both language and culture, that prevents the colonised from rising up against his colonial master. Wales will always be a subjugated nation until modes of thought, dominant since the nineteenth century, are overturned. Originally a comment on Welsh acquiescence to Britishness at the time of the 2014 Scottish independence referendum, the book’s emphasis on the importance of European culture is a parable for Brexit times. Both deeply rooted in Welsh culture and European in scope, Why Wales Never Was brings together history, philosophy and politics in a way never tried before in Wales. First published in Welsh in 2015, Why Wales Never Was affirms the author’s reputation as one of the most radical writers in Wales today.

During the nineteenth century, the Age of Nationalism, small stateless nations all over Europe developed successful national movements which demanded rights for minority language communities. One of the central questions of Welsh history is why this didn’t happen in Wales. Welsh patriotism emphasised radicalism and liberalism, which subsumed Wales within the discourse of British progressive politics. Liberalism promotes majoritarian identities, and in Wales is a key component of British hegemony. Wales in the nineteenth century was more liberal and radical than almost any other country in Europe. Contrary to the popular view that this was a boost for Welsh nationalism, Pam na fu Cymru (Why Wales never happened) shows that this was the very reason for its failure.
A scholarly, theoretical discussion about the resemblance between the history of enlightenment in Europe and the intellectual history of welsh-speaking Wales in the 20th century, comprising of a new insight into the work of such figures as R.T. Jenkins, John Gwilym Jones and Hywel Teifi Edwards.
