A Little Bit of Help is the first volume in the Learning with Megan series - an illustrated educational resource designed to support young adults with learning disabilities in reading, numeracy, and everyday independence. Written collaboratively by Megan and Simon Robinson, the book uses real-life stories, repetition, and humour to build confidence and understanding in learners who find conventional reading materials too childish or abstract. Each chapter introduces familiar daily experiences - from shopping and cooking to calendars, time, and emotions - in clear, accessible language supported by images and word lists. Developed during the Covid lockdowns as a home-learning project, A Little Bit of Help blends educational psychology with compassionate teaching. It offers a practical, human approach to literacy and life skills - encouraging learners to read, think, and grow with confidence.

A collection of interviews with men and women from the Silent Generation - those born between 1928 and 1945 - about their childhood experiences during World War Two "Those men and women who donned uniforms to 'do their bit' were not the only ones affected by a conflict that turned the world upside down. Many millions of children also lived through the war." Each November we remember the sacrifice and courage of the soldiers, sailors and airmen who fought in two world wars. Sadly, as each year passes, only a handful of veterans survive to tell their stories, and those of their comrades who paid the ultimate price. But there's another group of women and men, themselves now elderly, who also survived a war. They may not have borne arms, or worn a uniform, but they too faced war's horrors - as children - and they bear its scars. They may not be war veterans but they are war's victims and survivors. Author Chris Manby and social historian Simon Robinson finally give a voice to those children, and tell some of the very few untold stories of World War Two. Tales of hardship, danger, brutality and terror. "Alongside their parents and grandparents, they too faced the blitzes, lived on rations and were, in many terrible cases, imprisoned, subjected to torture and used as slave labour. Though the children of World War Two were too young to serve they were not too young to suffer." Moving, compelling, tragic and uplifting, it is also a story of our times as the authors say... "A new generation of children is spending nights in bomb shelters, becoming refugees and losing their loved ones. Perhaps listening to the voices of those who were children during World War Two, and examining how their lives developed in the decades that followed, can help us to better understand how to support this new band of war babies in the years to come. It's time for the Silent Generation's stories to be heard."

Nigredo is the first stage in a journey of inner alchemy - a path not paved with ancient secrets, but forged through the raw contradictions of modern life. This is not a book about arcane rituals or esoteric doctrines. It is a field guide for those who feel something stirring beneath the surface of their daily experience - a restlessness, a question, a sense that what passes for normal is not enough. It begins not with certainty, but with doubt. Not with light, but with darkness.Blending poetic narrative with Buddhist insight, sacred psychology, and symbolic myth, Nigredo offers readers a companion through the initial stage of spiritual transformation. It speaks directly to those who have tasted success yet found it hollow, who have sought meaning through systems and identities only to discover themselves more lost than before. Through this alchemical lens, confusion becomes not an error, but a necessary gate; disillusionment, not a failure, but a spark.Structured across four movements - Mythos, Dharma, Object, and Subject - the book guides readers through layers of unravelling and rediscovery. Each section explores a distinct facet of transformation: the narratives we inherit and inhabit, the moral frameworks that guide or constrict us, the relationship to objects and external goals, and finally, the shifting terrain of the self.Rather than offering answers, Nigredo poses deeper questions - the kind we often silence in order to carry on. What if your discomfort is not a flaw, but a calling? What if what you are looking for has always been quietly waiting beneath the surface? In evocative, meditative prose, the book traces the slow undoing of illusions: the gradual collapse of conditioned reactivity, the subtle awakening to presence, and the bittersweet clarity that arises when one truly begins to see.Equal parts memoir and study guide, Nigredo invites readers into an introspective landscape that is both intimate and universal. It draws from the author's lived experience - in medicine, in spiritual training, and in the aftermath of burnout - weaving those threads into a tapestry that resonates with seekers, sceptics, and anyone navigating the quiet ache for something real. This is a book for those who have read widely and found themselves unchanged. For those who long for a wisdom that dissolves suffering, not by solving it, but by revealing its nature. With minimal dogma and maximum honesty, Nigredo opens a space in which transformation can be glimpsed not as a destination, but as a deepening of attention. For those ready to begin again - with fewer answers and greater sincerity - this is where the work begins.
Exploring Integrity in the Christian Church

Exploring Integrity in the Christian Church

Simon Robinson

Springer International Publishing AG

sidottu
This book presents a philosophical and theological analysis of the concept of integrity. Using case studies, it offers a view of integrity which is focused in: identity (individual and corporate); responsibility (for critical reflection on identity and related ideas and feelings associated with worth, mutual and plural accountability, and shared responsibility for creating and creation); ongoing learning (individual and corporate). Simon Robinson brings together Aristotelian and existentialist perspectives, agapeic theology, and wider leadership and governance theory, and in doing so connects ecclesiology, Christian Ethics, pastoral theology, church leadership and governance. Robinson focuses on praxis, reflection on how the Christian church engages its members and the world, and how it can learn and develop peacebuilding. Critical to this the development of genuine dialogue, individual and shared narrative building, and the corporate framework of virtues and virtue development, which connects individual and corporate agency.

EASY ON THE EYE BOOKS

From the collection of Steve Goldman comes a new book, The Art Of The Bizarre Vinyl Sleeve, containing the best of the worst as it were! In essence this book revolves around Steve's remarkable archive of album covers which first surfaced at a public exhibition in Huddersfield in 2021 where it quickly picked up coverage from all the major media and local news channels, giving people a much needed smile following the pandemic. The display moved to Stoke On Trent where Easy On The Eye Books met up with Steve and discussed the idea of a book. After an hour, much of it spent doubled up with laughter viewing the display, it was clear that Steve had tapped into something special. There are any number of "worst record sleeve" galleries on the web, usually recycling the same poor quality jpegs, and even a couple of very low budget books. But Easy On The Eye decided that while these covers are strange for any number of reasons, just to label them as "worst" seemed pejorative, there had to be a story behind them. Hence The Art Of The Bizarre Vinyl Sleeve, which aims to tackle the subject properly, with input not just from Steve, but some of the artists, collectors and designers, to find out what really happened. Simon Robinson at Easy On The Eye, who has produced many sleeve designs himself (happily none of which feature in Steve's collection!) and researched the subject for many years, has written the text.

Providing methods through which integrity can be learned, the author demonstrates the importance of practice, learning, dialogue and developing a narrative in forming the basis of trust. The book offers a view of integrity in which ideas, values and practice come together to make business and social sense, and to form the basis of mutual challenge and creativity.

Turkish Islamic leader Fethullah Gülen offers a distinctive view of responsibility, which is explored here for the first time. Simon Robinson shows how Gülen’s writings, influenced by both orthodox Islam and the Sufi tradition, contribute a dynamic, holistic and interactive view of responsibility which locates personal identity, agency and freedom in plural relationships. The Spirituality of Responsibility also explores the practice of responsibility in Gülen’s life and in the Hizmet movement which he founded. Gülen has been at the centre of many controversies, including in his Movement’s relationship with the Turkish government. Charting Gülen’s response, from the Israeli Gaza blockade through to more recent crises, the book critiques aspects of both this practice and underlying ideas, and argues that responsibility, focused in dialogue and peace-building, is continuing to evolve in the leadership and practice of the movement, providing a challenge to conventional views of governance and responsibility. This book is an important contribution both to the theological and philosophical debate about responsibility but also to the practice of responsibility focused in creative action, debates in business and contemporary society about responsible governance and enterprise.

Engineering, as a profession and business, is at the sharp end of the ethical practice. Far from being a bolt on extra to the ‘real work’ of the engineer it is at the heart of how he or she relates to the many different stakeholders in the engineering project. Engineering, Business and Professional Ethics highlights the ethical dimension of engineering and shows how values and responsibility relate to everyday practice. Looking at the underlying value systems that inform practical thinking the book offers a framework for ethical decision-making. Covering global corporate responsibility to the increasing concern for the environment within the engineering business, the book offers ways in which value conflict can be handled. Integrating practice, value and diversity the book helps to prepare the engineer for the ethical challenges of the 21st century. This book is essential reading for all students on courses accredited by the Engineering Council e.g. Civil, Chemical, Mechanical and Environmental Engineering who need to be aware of ethics. Also of interest to practicing engineers and professionals such as Sustainability Managers and Community Workers involved in engineering projects. The authors have worked together in the area of engineering, professional and business ethics for many years and are all members of the National Centre for Applied Ethics at the University of Leeds.
