Steve Edwards is a semi-retired, former IT and Telecommunications technician who was drawn to the Ayahuasca path by serious health challenges after Western medicine had failed to provide answers. Steve's Ayahuasca journey began in Peru in August 2021 at 57 years of age. He sold his house to fund an epic, desperate search for alternative, medicinal relief from the many physical and psychological ailments that beset him. This book describes Steve's journey over a total of 108 ayahuasca ceremonies over 4 years that introduced him to the reality of spiritual dimensions that he never imagined could exist, particularly the dark realms of witchcraft and the demonic. Steve also explains how these negative forces are ultimately balanced and opposed by the beauty of the "Unconditional Love" innate to the Yin side of Mama Ayahuasca and countless other Nature spirits. It is harrowing in places, due to the descriptions of various degrees and effects of demonic possession and witch hexes that were suffered by Steve, as well as other Ayahuasca clients Steve met on this remarkable and fascinating journey. Steve documents much of the dark side reality of shamanism and witchcraft, as practiced in the Amazon regions, so serves as a necessary warning to those unwary and na ve, who do not appreciate or understand the possible risks involved with spiritual plant medicine practices due to the possible, nefarious behaviour of corrupt and greedy shamans or retreats. This memoir continues from Steve's first short book "Ayahuasca; From Demonic Possession to Unconditional Love" that covered Steve's first 3 Ayahuasca ceremonies.

This acute and overarching analysis of Allan Sekula's documentary poetics illuminates his critique of neoliberal capitalism through photography, film and prose. The authors trace surprising paths through his practice emphasising not merely the depicted topics but also his dialectics of form. Posing new questions about the relations between aesthetics and politics, they consider Sekula's examination of image modes alongside his radical investigations of terraqueous capitalism. Day and Edwards show how Sekula's purview 'from below' allies motley proletarians with 'colour as comrade'. His project of radical documentary entwines allegorical reading with uneven and combined development. Horizontal montage is addressed through both Marxism's value-form and post-Freudian 'anal vision'. Serious subjects slide into sense of the absurd. Unexpectedly, the authors demonstrate how Sekula advances critical realism and 'critical irrealism'. Approaching Sekula's art afresh, they offer detailed interpretations of, among other works, Aerospace Folktales (1973), Fish Story (1995), Waiting for Tear Gas (1999-2000), and The Lottery of the Sea (2006).

Writing with an elegant simplicity and resilient reverence, Edwards proves to be an astute and passionate observer of both human and Mother Nature.-Carol Haggas, Booklist OnlineIn 2001 Steve Edwards won a writing contest. The prize was seven months of “unparalleled solitude” as the caretaker of a ninety-two-acre backcountry homestead along the Rogue National Wild and Scenic River in southwestern Oregon. Young, recently divorced, and humbled by the prospect of so much time alone, he left behind his job as a college English teacher in Indiana and headed west for a remote but comfortable cabin in the rugged Klamath Mountains. Well aware of what could go wrong living two hours from town with no electricity and no neighbors, Edwards was surprised by what could go right. In prose that is by turns lyrical, introspective, and funny, Breaking into the Backcountry is the story of what he discovered: that alone, in a wild place, each day is a challenge and a gift. Whether chronicling the pleasures of a day-long fishing trip, his first encounter with a black bear, a lightning storm and the threat of fire, the beauty of a steelhead, the attacks of 9/11, or a silence so profound that a black-tailed deer chewing grass outside his window could wake him from sleep, Edwards’s careful evocation of the river canyon and its effect on him testifies to the enduring power of wilderness to transform a life.

Since the production of the first negative by William Henry Fox Talbot in Wiltshire’s Lacock Abbey in 1835, English photography has played a central role in revolutionizing the production of images, yet it has largely evaded critical attention. The Making of English Photography investigates this new enterprise—and specifically how professional photographers shaped a strange aesthetic for their practice. The Making of English Photography examines the development of English photography as an industrial, commercial, and (most problematically) artistic enterprise. Concentrating on the first decades of photography’s history, Edwards tracks the pivotal distinction between art and document as it emerged in the writings of the “men of science” and professional photographers, suggesting that this key opposition is rooted in social fantasies of the worker. Through a close reading of the photographic press in the 1860s, he both reconstructs the ideological world of photographers and employs the unstable category of photography to cast light on art, class, and industrial knowledge. Bringing together an array of early photographs, recent historical and theoretical scholarship, and extensive archival sources, The Making of English Photography sheds new light on the prevailing discourses of photography as well as the antinomies of art and work in a world shaped by social division.

Photographs are an integral part of our daily lives from sensationalist images in tabloid papers and snapshots, to art photograpy displayed in galleries and sold through international art markets. In this thought-provoking exploration of the subject, Edwards combines a sense of the historical development of photography with an analysis of its purpose and meaning within a wider cultural context. He interrogates the way we look and think about photographs, and considers such issues as truth and recording, objectivity and fine art, identity and memory. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Signs of Safety

It focuses on the question, "How can child protection professionals actually build partnerships with parents where there is suspected or substantiated child abuse or neglect?" The authors bring the solution orientation to child protection work, expanding the investigation of risk to encompass signs of safety that can be built upon to stabilize and strengthen the child's and family's situation. The philosophy behind this approach is clearly articulated through ten practice principles that serve as guiding beacons for child protection workers as they traverse the rough waters of abuse and neglect investigation. Child protection workers are involved with vulnerable, at-risk children in potentially volatile situations. Here they will find a new child protection assessment and planning protocol that allows for comprehensive risk assessment incorporating both danger and safety and the perspectives of both professionals and service recipients (parents). The authors provide practical, hands-on strategies for building a partnership with parents, which may, in the long run, prevent abuse and family dissolution. They illustrate these strategies in cases showing the subtle process of integrating the seemingly opposite notions of coercion and cooperation. Respectful, optimistic, and highly practical, this book promises to revitalize and redirect child protection services.
