The book was fantastic It was as enjoyable to me as "The Golden Warrior", "Musashi", and "With Fire and Sword" and other historical fiction novels that grace my bookshelves (many of which purchased through your recommendation on Amazon). It is nice to read a book and get mad, frustrated, etc. at the characters. Thanks again for a pleasurable read Pete Giorgianni

Addressing the epistemological question of how knowledge of a world is enabled in creatures like ourselves, Stuart W. Mirsky argues that moral claims can only be understood within the broader scope of valuational activities in general which form one of two essential pillars to make knowledge of a world possible. Without the capacity to value, he suggests, there can be neither referring nor asserting, both essential to our ability to conceive a world and live within it. Thus valuing can be seen to be a critical element in the formation of human knowledge, placing our ethical judgments on firmer epistemic footing than contemporary philosophy has heretofore allowed.

Exploring the role of valuing in discursive practice in order to understand its implications for our moral judgments and beliefs, this work builds on Stuart W. Mirsky's earlier effort, Choice and Action, which examined the cognitive status of our moral claims. In this new one, Mirsky sets out to answer questions left unresolved in the earlier book in order to better explain how valuation is made possible by, and forms a foundation for, assertoric discourse, thereby becoming the various and distinctive modes of judgment that enable us to operate in the world. A pragmatist epistemology is spelled out and explored in order to develop a picture of valuation as one of two pillars on which our knowledge of the world rests.
