In support of his wildly successful TERRYWOOD, which opened in Los Angeles earlier in the year, Terry Richardson releases a comprehensive monograph fully detailing the exhibition. The volume consists of the artwork in the exhibition, documentation of the year-long process of building the exhibition and coverage of the opening night which has already attained legendary status as one the most important happenings in art since the turn of the century. In addition to Richardson's imagery, the book will be accompanied by texts from Jeffrey Deitch and Al Moran. Terry Richardson is one of the most prolifi c and compelling photographers of his generation. Known for his uncanny ability to cut to the raw essence of whomever appears before his lens, Richardson's vision is at once humorous, tragic, often beautiful, and always provocative. Born in New York City and raised in Hollywood, he began photographing his environment while attending Hollywood High School and playing in a punk rock band. Richardson's work has been the subject of numerous group and solo shows throughout the world, and he has published a selection of books beginning with Hysteric Glamour in 1998, followed by a print retrospective titled TERRYWORLD, and most recently released LADY GAGA x TERRY RICHARDSON. Co-published by OHWOW and The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Los Angeles, this 192-page hardcover book is a visual examination of moments in and out of frame, expanding the exhibition’s narrative and documenting the fresh and unconventional films, videos, photography, painting, drawings, and sculpture presented in the exhibition. The book also includes film stills and photographs not included in the exhibition. An introductory essay by author and art theorist Francisco J. Ricardo, PhD. , outlines the background to Rebel, explaining the impetus for Franco’s inquiry and his artistic motivations, from conception through execution.
