Hundreds of Black Baseball Teams were formed during and after the Reconstruction Period following the Civil War and Emancipation. Blacks formed their own teams and leagues in the early years due to segregation, and endured obstacles and made tremendous sacrifices in order to play the game of baseball they loved.
