The Christian Soldier, Or Heaven Taken By Storm: Showing The Holy Violence A Christian Is To Put Forth In The Pursuit After Glory is a religious book written by Thomas Watson in 1810. The book focuses on the idea of a Christian soldier, who is engaged in a spiritual battle for the pursuit of glory and entrance into heaven. Watson emphasizes the importance of holy violence in this pursuit, which involves a strong and determined effort to overcome sin and temptation. The book is divided into several chapters, each of which explores different aspects of the Christian soldier's journey towards heaven. Topics covered include the nature of sin, the importance of prayer and meditation, the role of faith and obedience, and the rewards of eternal life. The Christian Soldier is a valuable resource for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of Christian spirituality and the pursuit of a life of holiness. This Is A New Release Of The Original 1810 Edition. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. The Modern English Reader Series Easier Reading. Same Great Classics. This book has been edited to make it easier for the modern English reader. Thomas Watson's The Doctrine of Repentance is a must read for those who earnestly desire to know the repentance God requires. Many books have been written on this topic, few have surpassed his work. What's Different About This Version? Phrases and words with little or no modern meaning, such as, "See how sin pleads custom, and that is a leopard's spot" have been changed to read, "See how we become accustomed to sin, just as a leopard does to his spots." In other words, it's easier to read

Watson, one of the most understandable and practical of the Puritans, gives us a much needed remedy for the discontent that is rampant in our society today, even among Christians. He gives a warm and God-centered view of how contentment as a Christian is not only possible, but should be normal. His thesis is: "That a gracious spirit is a contented spirit. The doctrine of contentment is very superlative; and til we have learned this, we have not learned to be Christians." He rightly focuses the source of contentment on God's promises and His sovereign keeping of them. "There is one promise brings much sweet contentment into the soul, 'They that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing, ' Ps. 34:10. If the thing we desire be good for us, we shall have it; if it be not good, then the not having it is good for us. The resting satisfied with this promise gives contentment." All Christians can benefit from this kind of work, that we might be different, and not live in the same discontent that we see all around us. If you're looking for a treatment for your heart, Watson is a fine physician of the soul
