Football, Power, and Politics in Europe deals with the politics and policy-making in the field of football in a comparative perspective. Translated into English for the first time, this book systematizes political actors and their footprints not only in the field of sports, but in the political system as a whole--an approach unique in the broader literature on the societal dimension of sports. It offers an empirical analysis of power exercise with sociological means (field approach of Bourdieu) and helps us to understand the enormous relevance of football/soccer in European societies, shedding light on how (elected and non-elected) power holders use norms inherent to the field of football. While the analysis extends to various European countries and to the international arena, Germany and German football are in the centre of interest. Combining insights from political science, sociology, anthropology, and of course, sports studies, this book ultimately seeks to ask: How is political power exerted and controlled in a field where state institutions only have a limited leverage?

In this book, important works and approaches of policy-oriented emotion research are brought into a systematic context. For this purpose, three different types of emotions are elaborated, which in their totality constitute Homo Emotionalis: binary emotions, basic emotions, reflexive emotions. They correspond to individual-psychological stages of development, but are also relevant in the social and political handling of emotions. The interplay of emotion types and social constellations leads to different modes of political action, which shape different forms of emotional politics. In each case, individual logics emerge along which emotional politics is pursued. With its interdisciplinary focus, this volume is aimed at political scientists, anthropologists, sociologists and social psychologists.

In diesem Buch werden wichtige Werke und Ansätze der politikorientierten Emotionenforschung in einen systematischen Zusammenhang gebracht. Dafür werden drei unterschiedliche Typen von Emotionen herausgearbeitet, die in ihrer Gesamtheit den Homo Emotionalis ausmachen: binäre Emotionen, Basisemotionen, reflexive Emotionen. Sie entsprechen individualpsychologischen Entwicklungsstufen, sind aber auch im sozialen und politischen Umgang mit Emotionen relevant. Das Zusammenspiel von Emotionentypen und gesellschaftlichen Konstellationen führt zu verschiedenen Modi politischen Handelns, die unterschiedliche Formen von emotionaler Politik prägen. Es entstehen jeweils eigene Logiken, entlang derer Emotionenpolitik betrieben wird. Der Band richtet sich mit seinem interdisziplinären Fokus an Politikwissenschaft*innen, Anthropolog*innen, Soziolog*innen und Sozialpsycholog*innen.

Die Europäische Union bestimmt die Politik in Deutschland auf vielfältige Weise. In diesem Buch werden die Veränderungen der politischen Institutionen sowie der politischen Prozesse aufgezeigt, die in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland aufgrund von EU-Integration und Europäisierung vonstattengegangen sind. Für die neue Auflage wurde das Buch vollständig überarbeitet und komplett aktualisiert.

Das Buch setzt sich systematisch mit der Frage auseinander, welche Folgen die Osterweiterung fur das Funktionieren der EU hat. Auf der Folie fruherer Erweiterungwellen wird die Integrationsfahigkeit der neuen Mitgliedstaaten gepruft. Dafur werden die Staaten Mitteleuropas in komparativer Perspektive im Hinblick auf die politische Kultur, Parteien und Institutionen betrachtet. Ausserdem wird der Einfluss der Osterweiterung auf ausgewahlte Politikfelder der EU analysiert.

Das Buch behandelt die Etablierung und Verfestigung der neuen Demokratien in Mittel-, Ost- und Südosteuropa. Untersucht wird der Einfluss von Regierungs- und Parteiensystemen auf die Stabilität der Demokratie. In die Analyse einbezogen sind Bulgarien, Estland, Lettland, Litauen, Makedonien, Moldova, Polen, Rumänien, Russland, Slowakei, Slowenien, Tschechien, Ukraine und Ungarn.
