A collection of forty common flowers comprising of watercolor image, botanical history, photo and a prose poem. The watercolor is a soft rendering of the flower, followed by a brief botanical history and possible place in mythology, literature and sometimes pop culture. References range from Longfellow, Shakespeare to more contemporary sources diverse as Tiny Tim, Debbie Reynolds and Helen Keller among others. The photo captures intricate beauty of the flower, often resembling a painting. The section closes with an irreverent, sometimes erotic or humorous, prose poem commentary on the flower. This is the author's first venture into poetry, his previous work consisting of three novels and a book of short stories. He describes this new genre for him as finger painting with words, a form of stream-of-consciousness, without the restrictions and structure of traditional poetry.

2Readers will get to know Tom Baker well in this unflinching, introspective, and honest account of his always-interesting life. In prose that is unadorned, sometimes ugly, but always authentic, he mixes harrowing tales of combat in Vietnam with humorous tales of growing up in the mountains of western North Carolina. He introduces readers to the friends, family members, and forces that have shaped him and his experiences. In the process, he reveals how history impacts people in ways large and small that echo for generations and across continents. His story reveals firsthand the thrills and consequences of a warrior mindset, a mindset that can lead to be trauma and enlightenment. Tom Baker is much more than just a warrior, though, and certainly not a wannabe. He is someone who has seen a lot of darkness but has not let that block out the light.--Alex Macaulay, PhD, US military historianMany people have sought solitude and inner peace in the mixed hardwood forests of the southern Appalachian Mountains. My father, Charles Woodard, also heard the call to the woods. Like Tom Baker, his mentee and friend for many years, Dad was pulled into the comforting and sometimes dangerous confines of the forest. These forests were where Tom Baker went to not only make a living but also to confront and deal with the demons of war and the struggles they bring to lives beyond war. Living life one day at a time, he searched for the inner strength to slowly, over time, remake himself, his life, and so many of the lives around him.--Dickie Woodard, former timber cutter and lifelong outdoorsmanAll of us have demons. Tom Baker's memoir is moving in how transparently and unashamedly its author shares his demons with us. Here is a man who has loved and been loved, has dodged death and has dealt death, has been scared and has been lost, and has loved and been loved yet again. As you read about his life, you realize that it is not insanity that leads a former soldier and logger to run and bike and navigate through the woods at all hours of the day and night, but sanity and his need to preserve himself for himself and for those he loves. Baker tells a tale of how adventure racing, instead of helping him to outrun his demons, gave him the emotional tools to turn, face those demons, and stomp them into the ground. His example is a gift to all who know him, and his memoir is a gift to all those who will know him now through his writing.--Nate Kreuter, PhD, author and adventure racer

A collection of poems by experimental musician and outsider artist, Tom B., Molotov is the first collection of his poetry ever published. Erupting from the burning, nauseous gut of a terminal outsider, one who takes his cues from the sleeping brain (wired into the vast, Universal Conscious Awareness), these brief versifications and black forays into the world of dreams and nightmares span an era of ten years, and cycles of subconscious communication with that ineffable OTHER only a living, sentient, but alien soul can perceive. The poetry of Molotov boils over with a malignant rage at a world gone mad; yet, it still looks, with an eager, mystic eye, at a world that is invisible, unborn, but certainly one that is also Yet To Come.

Kluge lives with his mother and brother in a tenement, in a nameless city, long ago. Discovering a terrible secret, Kluge explodes in a torrent of homicidal rage. Kluge lashes out at a world that mocks him, erupting in blood-spattered fury. But, is it all just another of his dreams? This hardboiled novelette was written in a white heat of inspiration, based on a grisly true crime case from the Roaring Twenties. Kluge bristles like tough poetry. You'll never forget it.

Orville E. Dickerhoof was born before the Wright brothers flew their first airplane and lived to see a man walk on the moon. His own adventures began when he bought a Curtiss Jenny biplane in 1922 and restored it to flying condition. He barnstormed around the midwest in a variety of airplanes, offering rides and participating in aerial circus acts. When he wasn't flying, he worked on the railroad. During his aviation years, he survived a number of mishaps and crashes, and became acquainted with some of the most famous fliers of aviation's Golden Age. In his 90s, at the end of a full life, and still retaining a sharp memory, Dickerhoof related his memoirs to Tom Baker, who wrote them down and added some historical context to create this book. Photographs and letters from Dickerhoof's scrapbook help to illuminate life in rural and small-town America during the time when great locomotives thundered across the prairies and the first airplanes took to the sky.
