Boken innehåller hela Matteusevangeliet i Bibelkommissionens översättning Bibel 2000.
The Resurrection of the Son of God

The Resurrection of the Son of God

N.T. Wright takes us on a fascinating journey through ancient beliefs about life after death, from the shadowy figures who inhabit Homer's Hades, through Plato's hope for a blessed immortality, to the first century, where the Greek and Roman world (apart from the Jews) consistently denied any possibility of resurrection. We then examine ancient Jewish beliefs on the same subject, from the Bible to the Dead Sea Scrolls and beyond. This sets the scene for a full-scale examination of early Christian beliefs about resurrection in general and that of Jesus in particular, beginning with Paul and working through to the start of the third century. Wright looks at all the evidence, and asks: Why did the Christians agree with Jewish resurrection belief while introducing into it - across the board - significant modifications? To answer this question we come to the strange and evocative Easter stories in the gospels and ask whether they can have been late inventions. Wright seeks the best historical conclusions about the empty tomb and the belief that Jesus really did rise bodily from the dead, recognizing that it was this belief that caused early Christians to call Jesus 'Son of God'. In doing so, they posed a political challenge as well as a theological one. These challenges retain their power in the twenty-first century.

When he was inducted into the Hibs’ Hall of Fame on Eater Road in 2012, Eric Stevenson declared “This means everything to me. My uncle founded the Bonnyrigg Hibs supporters’ club in 1949-50 and I started going to games when I was seven”. This book traces Stevenson’s fanatical interest in the club from a very young age , his time as a left-winger wearing the number eleven green and white jersey in the 60s, and the well-deserved recognition that he has gained today.

Drawing on a collection of lectures that Tom Wright delivered from 1999 to 2015, God in Public brings together the message of Jesus – in its larger biblical context – and the challenges of the contemporary public and political worlds. Those new to Tom Wright will find this book an ideal introduction into his writings. In this book, Wright challenges the west’s response to 9/11 and then expands to discuss a more Jesus inspired way of approaching the public problems we find ourselves in, based on the following Jesus’ life and teachings. Questions such as: What has Christianity to do with power? Why must the church remind those in authority of their responsibilities? And What can Christians do to act as the voice of the voiceless? Are central in this book as Wright demonstrates the many ways in which faithful exegesis of scripture can throw fresh light – God’s light – on the great philosophical and ethical problems of our day.

The Gospel means good news, but what makes it news? If the message has been around for 2,000 years, what could possibly be newsworthy about it? And what makes it good? Surely not the stories we hear of damnation, violence, and an angry God. Tom Wright believes many Christians have lost sight of what the ‘good news’ of the gospel really is. In Simply Good News, he shows how a first-century audience would have received the gospel message, what the ‘good news’ means for us today and how it can transform our lives.

Subversive Christianity, Second Edition

Where is Western culture going? What should Christians think about it? Those who already ask these questions often come up with confused answers. Those who do not are, arguably, living in a fool's paradise (or a fool's hell.) In this second edition of Subversive Christianity, Brian Walsh returns to the themes of cultural discernment that he unpacked more than twenty years ago. In a new Postscript, Walsh revisits Francis Fukuyama, Bruce Cockburn, and the prophet Jeremiah and asks, Where are we now? In light of 9/11 and the world economic crisis of 2008, how do we discern the times, and what does that discernment tell us about the calling of the church? ""Brian Walsh tackles the central issues head on in this powerful little book. He is well-equipped to do so. On the one hand, he has studied contemporary culture--and a wide range of Christian discussions of it--in great depth. We are here given, in easily accessible form, the fruits of many years of patient academic work. He has also drunk deeply from biblical theology, and provides clear and creative exegesis of several passages in a way which breathes new life into them. Walsh brings together the Bible and the modern world in a way which is as original as it is compelling."" --From the foreword by N.T. Wright, University of St. Andrews. Brian Walsh is a Christian Reformed campus minister at the University of Toronto. He is the author of Kicking at the Darkness: Bruce Cockburn and the Christian Imagination, and coauthor of Beyond Homelessness: Christian Faith in a Culture of Displacement (with Steven Bouma-Prediger), Colossians Remixed: Subverting the Empire (with Sylvia Keesmaat), and Truth Is Stranger Than It Used to Be (with J. Richard Middleton).

Writing in an accessible and anecdotal style, Tom Wright helps us to approach the rich and many-sided story of the book of Acts. Tom Wright has undertaken a tremendous task to provide guides to all the books of the New Testament, and to furnish them with his own fresh translation of the entire text. Each short passage is followed by a highly readable discussion, with background information, useful interpretation and explanation, and thoughts as to how it can be relevant to our lives today. No knowledge of technical jargon is required. A glossary is included at the back of the book. The series is suitable for personal or group use. The format makes it appropriate also for daily study.
