GDPM is a method developed by the authors based on practical experience. It has been refined over 40 years, and still widespread as curricular in universities/colleges and adopted as standard approach by organizations all over the world.The book is different from other textbooks in project management as it is a focused approach on how to do it, rather than general discussion. Research shows that the greatest degree of project success is achieved when there is a close relationship between benefits realization and project management, and between project owner and project manager.

Målrettet prosjektstyring viser hvordan et prosjekt skal styres. Boken presenterer en helhetlig og praktisk framgangsmåte for planlegging, organisering og oppfølging, og understreker betydningen av koordinert person-, system- og organisasjonsutvikling (pso-utvikling). Videre viser den hvordan fundamentet for prosjektet bør lages og hvordan man bestemmer formål og mål. Det gis en grundig innføring i milepælplanlegging og prosjektorganisering med bruk av ansvarskart, og hvordan man følger opp framdriften i prosjektet gjennom god rapportering og økonomisk styring. Avslutningsvis ser man også på prosjektstyring i et flerprosjektmiljø. I denne nye utgaven gis det en større fordypning i temaet gevinstrealisering.
