This book offers a comprehensive analysis of the evolution of US naval presence and strategy in one of the world’s most strategically significant regions. Spanning from the Cold War era to the present day, the book traces the trajectory of US engagement in the Indian Ocean, examining the factors driving strategic shifts, security challenges and evolving alliances. It investigates how the US has transitioned from a posture of dominance to one of diffusion, engaging with regional partners to address emerging threats and seize opportunities. The book also looks at the rise of China and how it has impacted US presence in a somewhat transformed region—the Indo-Pacific. Part of the International Politics in the Age of Disruption series, the book will be indispensable for students and researchers of military studies, security studies, political studies, international relations and South Asian studies.

This book is an attempt to tell the story of India's fight against COVID-19 and the impact it had in reshaping of India's foreign policy. How India responded starting from the early stages of the pandemic, including ensuring the return of its people in the early stages and aid delivery at later stages, is a story that needs to be told. Indian foreign policy bore an extraordinary brunt of deliverance, even as it imposed total lockdown in a country of 1.3 billion people. This book recounts the steps taken by the Indian government and its various departments and agencies during COVID-19, the coordination. Between them and its overall impact on the nation's outlook. As the nature of diplomacy shifted from physical to virtual and trade became difficult with countries closing the border, India had to invoke its Atmanirbhar spirit to sustain the momentum of nation's collective conscience. India's diplomacy during the peak of the pandemic faced multiple challenges not just induced by the virus but also enhanced threats at the border by China. Perhaps, India's relations with great, middle and small powers have stood revised in many ways in the post-pandemic world. This book remains an unfinished project as neither has COVID-19 threat completely ended, nor have other virus-induced changes been fully restored to resume the pre-pandemic world of global relations, mobility and diplomacy. Vivek Mishra is a Fellow with ORF's Strategic Studies Programme. His research interests include America in the Indian Ocean and Indo-Pacific and Asia-Pacific regions, particularly the role of the US in security in South Asia, Indo-US defence relations, and the Indian defence sector. Previously, he was a Research Fellow with ICWA, New Delhi and a Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Scholar at the Saltzman Institute of War & Peace, School of International Public Affairs, Columbia University.

The United Nations has always been held in high esteem in India, particularly during the Nehru years when an internationally minded Prime Minister ensured that India's voice would be heard in global debates on security, development, human rights and race relations. The evolving views of all Indian Governments on these matters were reflected in the opening statements made by heads of the Indian delegation, usually the Prime Minister or Foreign Minister, at the September General Assembly Session of the United Nations. This volume brings together these opening statements from 1945 onwards and presents in effect a history of India's international stance on issues of national and global concern. It is an invaluable resource for any student of modern Indian history and international relations.Nitin DesaiFormer Under-Secretary General of the United NationsThis is a reference work on India at the UN General Assembly which not only records the Indian government's concerns on contemporary events, but provides a significant record, with explanatory footnotes, of world history from 1946 to 2018. This excellent collection will be valued by scholars of international relations and India's role as successive administrations finessed their policies to meet the needs of a changing world.Krishnan SrinivasanFormer Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, GoIIndia's engagement with the United Nations, particularly the speeches and interventions in the General Assembly, has been a defining feature of India's foreign policy. India's stature as a key player in the international system has been reflected in the key concerns that it has championed through the UNGA. This comprehensive volume is an invaluable guide for academics and practitioners alike. It must be read by anyone looking for the moral compass that has guided the direction of India's foreign policy as well as to understand the real politic which has dominated New Delhi's thinking in recent years. A brilliant effort by the Editors to produce an incomparable resource Amitabh Mattoo, PadmashriProfessor, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi andHonorary Professor of International Relations, University of Melbourne India has always stood for multilateralism as enshrined in the ethos of UN. Beginning Apache Cassandra Development
Beginning Apache Cassandra Development introduces you to one of the most robust and best-performing NoSQL database platforms on the planet. Apache Cassandra is a document database following the JSON document model. It is specifically designed to manage large amounts of data across many commodity servers without there being any single point of failure. This design approach makes Apache Cassandra a robust and easy-to-implement platform when high availability is needed.Apache Cassandra can be used by developers in Java, PHP, Python, and JavaScript—the primary and most commonly used languages. In Beginning Apache Cassandra Development, author and Cassandra expert Vivek Mishra takes you through using Apache Cassandra from each of these primary languages. Mishra also covers the Cassandra Query Language (CQL), the Apache Cassandra analog to SQL. You'll learn to develop applications sourcing data from Cassandra, query that data, and deliver it at speed to your application's users.Cassandra is one of the leading NoSQL databases, meaning you get unparalleled throughput and performance without the sort of processing overhead that comes with traditional proprietary databases. Beginning Apache Cassandra Development will therefore help you create applications that generate search results quickly, stand up to high levels of demand, scale as your user base grows, ensure operational simplicity, and—not least—provide delightful user experiences.

The objective of this study was to understand the pitfalls of the poor oocyte cleavage and subsequent embryo production by assessing the developmental competence of the oocytes in buffalo using parthenogenesis as a model which was compared with IVF (natural activation). Buffalo ovaries were collected from slaughter house and matured oocytes were subjected to either IVF (control) or chemical activation (treatment) 7% ethanol (ET)for 7 min ] 2.5 mM 6-Di methyl amino purine (6-DMAP) for 4 hr, or 7% ET for 7 min + 10 ug/ml Cycloheximide (CHX) for 6 hr or 7% ET for 7 min + 2.5 mM 6-DMAP + 10 ug/ml CHX for 6 hr]. Fertilized and chemically activated oocytes were cultured in mSOF medium for 8 days to study embryo development. In conclusion, the results of parthenogenesis, revealed that buffalo oocytes had better inherent developmental competence and the poor cleavage and embryo development following IVF, in our study, may partly be due to the poor quality of frozen-thawed sperm, improper sperm capacitation and/ or fertilization. Further, high ambient temperature adversely affected the cleavage and embryo development following IVF.
