In 1981, photographer, Walter Rabetz, travelled to his home town of New York City, and created a series of photographs of the bridges and tunnels leading to Manhattan, otherwise known as "the City." This group of loving photographs, composed of both portions of the bridge (or tunnel), and the environment in which it existed. By including both elements, the photographs also recorded some of the history of the boroughs, and the time. Looking at them now, we see the cars, the clothes, the stores, the people and the products of that time, some thirty-eight years ago. "Manhattan In The Distance" - both physically, and in the past.

In 1981, Walter Rabetz went off to photograph the Connecticut River Bridges. He went with his 10 year old daughter, Samantha, and the trip resulted in both a powerful bond between them, and a series of beautifully distinctive black and white images. Then, in 2013, Rabetz took the trip again with his artist wife, Marilyn. Together they took photographs of many of the same bridges. This book is a pairing of the two trips: recent color images against older black and white images. Arranged to suggest visual parallels rather than geographic accuracy, the book celebrates both the bridges and the trips.

This is an extraordinary collection of exquisite images of unusual leaves. While flowers are often so showy that they prevent us from looking at the leaves of the plant, this book reminds us that leaves are often equally beautiful and worthy of our full attention.
