Advanced Randomized Neural Networks For Pattern Analysis

Advanced Randomized Neural Networks For Pattern Analysis

This book is the culmination of our research in the recent decade on randomized neural networks with data-dependent supervision mechanisms. Traditional randomized neural networks mainly focused on constructing various deep neural networks with data independent random weights, ignoring the impact of the number of nodes and scope of parameters on the universal approximation property (UAP) of randomized neural networks. Comprising of 15 chapters, Advanced Randomized Neural Networks for Pattern Analysis introduces systematic solutions for advanced data-dependent stochastic configuration networks, namely algorithms that assign random parameters and construct network structures incrementally. The book is segmented into three major sections — neural networks optimization, robust data analysis, and deep fusion learning — that feature the successful performance of advanced randomized neural networks in various pattern analysis problems. We anticipate that both researchers and engineers in the field of artificial neural networks, particularly pattern recognition and medical diagnosis, will find this book and the associated algorithms useful, and we hope that anyone with an interest in the related research field will find the book enjoyable and informative.

This book explores pedagogical implications for how children read, write, respond to literature, and begin to learn an additional language in the home context.Using a longitudinal ethnographic study, it explores a bilingual child’s literacy development over a span of four years from kindergarten to the third grade in a real-life home context in the United States. Written from a parent-researcher’s perspective, it illustrates the child’s Mandarin Chinese and English language support at home and in the community during the pandemic, and charts the development in bilingual reading and writing, multimodal reading responses to children’s literature, and learning Spanish as a third language. Through rich and detailed descriptions, the case study methodology allows a clear articulation of the project’s focus and foregrounds the exploration of reading as a sociopsycholinguistic process, as well as highlighting multimodality in reading and writing responses, translanguaging, and bilingual and bicultural identities to study and teach culturally and linguistically diverse children. It will be a valuable resource for literacy researchers, scholars, and bilingual educators with interests in sociolinguistics, literacy education, bilingualism, and translanguaging.

This book strives to comprehensively explain Web 3.0 and tokenization technologies from theory to practice, from concepts to cases, and from opportunities to challenges. Chapter 1 systematically introduces the definition and characteristics of Web 3.0, as well as its impact on traditional investment and financing models, helping readers quickly establish a basic understanding of Web 3.0. Chapters 2, 3, and 4 serve as the theoretical foundation, delving into the blockchain technology principles underpinning tokenization and the economic theories embedded within, thereby solidifying the necessary knowledge base for readers. On the practical side, Chapters 5 and 6, as typical applications, focus on dissecting the two most core models in tokenization—the various types of RWA and stablecoins. The RWA model innovatively proposes ways to digitize and tokenize RWAs, significantly expanding the application scenarios and boundaries of tokenization. Stablecoins, as a bridge connecting the digital and real worlds, play a crucial role in promoting the prosperity of the tokenization ecosystem. Through detailed case studies and thorough analysis, this book enables readers to clearly understand how tokenization operates and the pathways to its implementation. However, the development of tokenization is not without obstacles; it also faces numerous risks and challenges. Chapters 7 and 8 adopt a cautious approach to discuss potential issues in regulation and social impact, objectively analyzing the resistances and limitations it faces, and proposing strategies and development recommendations. Only in this way can the development of tokenization become healthier and more sustainable.

The ebook edition of this title is Open Access and freely available to read online. As a world leader in technology, China’s adoption of trend-setting innovations has led to the encroachment of digital technologies into the home. Digital Parenting Burdens in China is the first English language book to explore the impact of digitalisation on family life in China, including the phenomenon of ‘punch-in culture’ and its implications for family wellbeing. In an era of heightened digital connectivity via parent-teacher and parent-parent chatgroups and homework apps, how are Chinese parents coping with the challenges of parental accountability, peer pressure and performative parenting? Delving into 90 interviews from both before and during the Covid-19 pandemic, authors Sun Sun Lim and Yang Wang provide rich vignettes of family life in urban Chinese households in Beijing and Hangzhou to demonstrate how parents appropriate technology as they raise their children, steer them towards the social aspirations of academic achievement, and navigate the rocky terrains of children’s home-based learning during the pandemic lockdowns. Empirically grounded and theoretically informed, these vivid accounts serve as valuable insights into understanding how family life around is shifting in the face of digitalisation not only in China, but globally.

Millions of work-related accidents occur each year around the world, leading to a large number of deaths, injuries, and a huge economic cost. Previous studies on risk assessment have revealed that it is important to calculate the probabilities of factors that can contribute to the occurrence of accidents. Several methods have been proposed to evaluate potential risk factors and to improve system safety. However, these methods have some limitations, such as their low generalizability, treating accident causation and human factor as two separate research topics, requiring intensive data, or relying solely on expert judgement. This book proposed some new ideas to address these limitations.
