This book gives a comprehensive review on thermal metamaterials, an emerging type of artificial structures designed for the control of heat transfer. To date, many exciting findings have been made in this field, including some novel understandings about the heat transfer processes (reciprocity, symmetry, topological properties, etc.), as well as promising new possibilities to control heat (cloaking, rectification, collection, etc.). The text is organized into three segments: steady-state, time-harmonic, and transient heat transfer. In Part I, the transformation theory and effective medium method are introduced with their applications on the manipulation of steady-state heat transfer, covering early studies in this field. In Part II, the recently developed thermal scattering theory and temporal modulation method are discussed in the context of controlling time-harmonic heat transfer. In Part III, the effective Hamiltonian method is presented to study the decaying thermal modes in transient heat transfer. We include detailed derivations and examples for each theory or method. The book ends with an outlook chapter on open problems and potential possibilities in this promising field.

This book has applied virtual prototype technology to model and simulate cable shovel for system dynamics and structural dynamics analysis in engineering applications. A rigid virtual cable shovel prototype is developed in a virtual mining environment for automatic dynamic analysis of shovel mechanical systems. The kinematics and dynamics embedded in this model are established as a right multi-body system based on the Euler-Lagrangian equations. The control system models are designed for driving the virtual model in real-time to track a desired time-based trajectory. By simulating the virtual prototype, the large structural cable shovel is visualized and system dynamics performance is captured. The dynamic virtual prototype model is validated by the comparison of the simulation results with the experimental analysis results. For the purpose of structural dynamics analysis, a hybrid cable shovel virtual prototype is generated by integrating flexible parts into the rigid components based on the theory of flexible multi-body dynamics. Three case studies are demonstrated from hybrid virtual prototype modeling through dynamic stress and deformation simulation to fatigue life evaluation. The structural dynamics performance of a cable shovel in oil sands formation is examined in a virtual simulation environment. The simulation model is validated by comparing the dynamic analysis results with the field test analysis results. This book is technically thorough, complete and consistent based on the existing knowledge, advanced technology and validated experience within academia and industry. I believed my son wrote something related to me in his essay or resume. This caused me to remember a lot of past things. Actually, my friend, one younger mom, wanted me to share the parenting experience with her. This book introduces my parenting experience and tells readers how I raise my son from an infant to a man. It includes nine life journeys through seven cities of four countries. They are the giving birth, feeding the baby, daycare, kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, high school, undergraduate, graduate school and teaching career. The book is significant to guide parents to, bring up, teach and educate their children. The book presents plenty of stories to illustrate my parenting experience.

The intelligent sports analysis of a soccer ball (also known as football, football ball, or association football ball) requires accurately simulating its motion and finding the best design parameters. Employing classic mechanics, this book establishes a fundamental framework for the soccer ball multi-body dynamics modeling, virtual prototype simulation and optimization design. It presents 3D virtual prototypes to predict the soccer ball trajectory for soccer players and trainers. The subject of this book referred to as the bending strength of CATT (circular-arc-tooth-trace) cylindrical gear, is taken to mean the study of the tooth bending stress with the analytical models and testing data. The objectives of this book are to contribute theoretical formulas and experimental methods towards efficient design and analysis of CATT gear in academic research and engineering application. The bending strength formula of CATT gear is developed base on classic mechanics and heritage of the main part of spur gear formula with additional modified factors. It allows calculating the stress distributions along the tooth length at the root fillets for the predictions of the maximum stress and determination of the critical transverse section on the tooth. The strain gauge method is applied to measure the stress distributions along the tooth length at root fillets. It provides a means for the bending stress measurement of CATT gear. The book indicates how to validate the theoretical model by comparing the calculation analysis results with the test analysis results. This book is technically thorough, complete and consistent based on the existing knowledge, measuring technology and validated experience within academia and industry. I am excited to announce my new book titled "Experiencing Menopause: Be Heathy, Be Happy, Be Strong and Be Self-motivated" is published. I never studied to be a medical doctor, but I have cumulated some tremendous cases about menopause symptoms and ways to release from the troubles caused by the menopause. Here, I reorganized them into a story and would like to share with readers. The book tells a story about my cousin experiencing menopause during living overseas. Like many women, menopause was a tough time for her. She has had to face a lot of challenges: the lower energy, anxiety, pressure, depression, discouragement and even job loss. I recapture several pieces of her menopause problems, edit them into two aspects, and then add some comments and suggestions. The solutions focus on the physical and psychological parts. In the physical chapters, I have written how hard she has face the hardship due to medical problem; how struggle she fight against the sickness; how many methods she has figured out to boost her energy; and how many excesses she has done to make her become stronger and stronger. In the psychological chapters, I have described how to deal with the emotional problems, how to encourage herself to overcome difficult life; how to appreciate the things she has; how to keep peace and stay happy; how to self-motivate to write and publish articles to contribute her knowledge to this world; and how enthusiastic to offer a helping hand to others as possible as she can. I am excited to announce my second English book is published. I wrote several stories about my experiences in China, Singapore, Canada and the US. Especially, I mentioned a trip I have taken to Miami, which has taken a long time for me to prepare. A lot of people helped me during the trip. I am grateful for their assistance. I mentioned my friend, who was a single mother. She was accompanied by her daughter and living overseas. I have written many messages to encourage her to be stronger in the hard times. I mentioned the story of the 55th Academic Award Winner. He never gave up his pursuit and had kept seeking for 22 years and finally won the reward. The people in all of these stories had experienced hardship, but they did not wait for the storms to pass instead of dancing in the rain. They are all my role models.
