The insertion of communication networks in feedback control loops complicates analysis and synthesis of cyber-physical systems (CPSs), and network-induced uncertainties may degrade system control performance. Thus, this book researches networked delay compensation and event-triggered control approaches for a series of CPSs subject to network-induced uncertainties. The authors begin with an introduction to the concepts and challenges of CPSs, followed by an overview of networked control approaches and event-triggered control strategies in CPSs. Then, networked delay compensation and event-triggered control approaches are proposed for CPSs with network communication delay, data dropout, signal quantization, and event-triggered communication. More specifically, networked delay compensation approaches are proposed for linear/nonlinear networked controlled plants with time-varying and random network communication delays and data dropouts. To reduce computational burden and network communication loads in CPSs, event-triggered control, self-triggered control, co-design of event-triggered control and quantized control techniques, and event-triggered disturbance rejection control approaches are also presented. This book is an essential text for researchers and engineers interested in cybersecurity, networked control, and CPSs. It would also prove useful for graduate students in the fields of science, engineering, and computer science.

This book is devoted to analysis and design on delta operator systems. When sampling is fast, a dynamical system will become difficult to control, which can be seen in wide real world applications. Delta operator approach is very effective to deal with fast sampling systems. Moreover, it is easy to observe and analyze the control effect with different sampling periods in delta operator systems. The framework of this book has been carefully constructed for delta operator systems to handle sliding mode control, time delays, filter design, finite frequency and networked control. These problems indeed are especially important and significant in automation and control systems design. Through the clear framework of the book, readers can easily go through the learning process on delta operator systems via a precise and comfortable learning sequence. Following this enjoyable trail, readers will come out knowing how to use delta operator approach to deal with control problems under fast sampling case. This book should be a good reference for academies, post-graduates scientists and engineers working in the field of control science and control engineering.

Within a unified switched-control framework, this book investigates the high-performance control designs and theoretic analyses for teleoperation systems, including the joint space and task space teleoperations, the homogeneous and heterogeneous teleoperations, and the single-master single-slave and multi-master multi-slave teleoperations. The book begins with an introduction to the concepts and challenges of networked teleoperation systems. Then, it investigates a new adaptive control framework based on auxiliary switched filters for the bilateral teleoperation systems to handle the model uncertainty and non-passive external forces. To overcome the input constraints of robotic systems, this adaptive method is also extended to the anti-windup adaptive control case. Furthermore, to apply to multi-robot remote collaboration scenarios and heterogeneous teleoperations, two tele-coordination methods and an adaptive semi-autonomous control method are respectively developed. Finally, the authors examine two finite-time control schemes and two types of improved prescribed performance controls for teleoperation systems to improve the transient-state and steady-state synchronization performances. This title will be an essential reference for researchers and engineers interested in teleoperation, robotic systems, and nonlinear control systems. It would also prove useful to graduate students in the fields of science, engineering, and computer science.

Networked Control Under Communication Constraints

Networked Control Under Communication Constraints

Springer Verlag, Singapore

This book presents a time-delay approach to the analysis and synthesis of networked control systems (NCSs) under communication constraints. Differently from other approaches, the time-delay approach to NCSs allows communication delays to be larger than the sampling intervals in the presence of scheduling protocols. The book starts from a comprehensive introduction to three main approaches to sampled-data and networked control. It then focuses on time-delay approach, and the modelling of the closed-loop systems in the form of time-delay system. It presents discontinuous (in time) Lyapunov functional constructions that are efficient for NCSs in the presence of communications delays. Further, it highlights time-delay approaches developed to model and analyze NCSs under communication constraints, with a particular focus on dynamic quantization, round-robin, try-once-discard and stochastic protocols. The results are first presented for the continuous-time NCSs and then extended to discrete-time NCSs. Discussing recent developments in Lyapunov-based analysis of NCSs under communication constraints, the book is a valuable resource for researchers interested in sampled-data and networked control, and time-delay systems, as well as for graduate students in automatic control and systems theory.

This book is suitable for graduate courses in electrical, mechanical and computer science departments. Consensus control in multiagent systems is becoming increasingly popular among researchers due to its applicability in analyzing and designing coordination behaviors among agents in multiagent frameworks. Multiagent systems have been a fascinating subject amongst researchers as their practical applications span multiple fields ranging from robotics, control theory, systems biology, evolutionary biology, power systems, social and political systems to mention a few.
Kalman Filtering and Information Fusion

Kalman Filtering and Information Fusion

Springer Verlag, Singapore

nidottu
This book addresses a key technology for digital information processing: Kalman filtering, which is generally considered to be one of the greatest discoveries of the 20th century. It introduces readers to issues concerning various uncertainties in a single plant, and to corresponding solutions based on adaptive estimation. Further, it discusses in detail the issues that arise when Kalman filtering technology is applied in multi-sensor systems and/or multi-agent systems, especially when various sensors are used in systems like intelligent robots, autonomous cars, smart homes, smart buildings, etc., requiring multi-sensor information fusion techniques. Furthermore, when multiple agents (subsystems) interact with one another, it produces coupling uncertainties, a challenging issue that is addressed here with the aid of novel decentralized adaptive filtering techniques.Overall, the book’s goal is to provide readers with a comprehensive investigation into the challenging problem of making Kalman filtering work well in the presence of various uncertainties and/or for multiple sensors/components. State-of-art techniques are introduced, together with a wealth of novel findings. As such, it can be a good reference book for researchers whose work involves filtering and applications; yet it can also serve as a postgraduate textbook for students in mathematics, engineering, automation, and related fields. To read this book, only a basic grasp of linear algebra and probability theory is needed, though experience with least squares, navigation, robotics, etc. would definitely be a plus.

Discrete Networked Dynamic Systems

Discrete Networked Dynamic Systems: Analysis and Performance provides a high-level treatment of a general class of linear discrete-time dynamic systems interconnected over an information network, exchanging relative state measurements or output measurements. It presents a systematic analysis of the material and provides an account to the math development in a unified way. The topics in this book are structured along four dimensions: Agent, Environment, Interaction, and Organization, while keeping global (system-centered) and local (agent-centered) viewpoints. The focus is on the wide-sense consensus problem in discrete networked dynamic systems. The authors rely heavily on algebraic graph theory and topology to derive their results. It is known that graphs play an important role in the analysis of interactions between multiagent/distributed systems. Graph-theoretic analysis provides insight into how topological interactions play a role in achieving coordination among agents. Numerous types of graphs exist in the literature, depending on the edge set of G. A simple graph has no self-loop or edges. Complete graphs are simple graphs with an edge connecting any pair of vertices. The vertex set in a bipartite graph can be partitioned into disjoint non-empty vertex sets, whereby there is an edge connecting every vertex in one set to every vertex in the other set. Random graphs have fixed vertex sets, but the edge set exhibits stochastic behavior modeled by probability functions. Much of the studies in coordination control are based on deterministic/fixed graphs, switching graphs, and random graphs.
