Grief is a journey no one chooses, but one that changes us forever. When David and Gill's son Joel died at just thirty-eight, life as they knew it shattered. The questions came fast and painfully: Why did this happen? Where is God in the sorrow? How can we live again when our hearts have been torn apart? Drawing on this personal experience, David Oliver breaks the taboo on death and offers a gentle guide for the grieving on how to live through unspeakable loss. With ten practical and comforting chapters, All About Grief by David Oliver spans the reality of loss with raw honesty and includes Biblical expressions of grief, assurances of God's promises and how we should - and shouldn't - communicate with the grieving. Whether you're mourning, or supporting those who are, this book is a trusted friend equipping you to grieve, or care, with a gentle but helpful confidence that breathes hope into broken hearts. The long-awaited companion to the bestselling book, All About Heaven.

Operating in all weathers, invariably at night, often at low level and usually without fighter escort, Allied ‘Special Duties’ (SD) squadrons and units played a vital role in the Second World War. By their very nature, these operations went unreported in wartime and for considerable time thereafter, but their importance in prosecuting the war of resistance in Occupied Europe was immense.Emerging from a time of rudimentary communications and transport, dedicated air units had been established by 1939 to fly agents into enemy territory, but their aircraft were hand-me-downs and the SD was considered a poor third to fighter and bomber operations. However, the tasks undertaken by these men and their aircraft were often more hazardous and demanding than any other type of wartime flying: for every SOS, SIS or OSS agent who lost their life in the field, at least one RAF or USAAF airman was killed while flying SD operations. Here, David Oliver examines the exploits of British, Commonwealth, American, Free European, Soviet, German, Italian and Japanese airmen and units, supported by first-hand accounts and archive photographs.

This book tells the full story of the Tyrrell Racing team from the perspective of one of its photographers. First established in 1958 by Ken Tyrrell with Formula 3 and Formula 2 cars, success soon came to Tyrrell in the 1967 German Grand Prix, when Jacky Ickx won the F.2 class in a Matra MS7. In 1968, Jackie Stewart won three Grands Prix driving a Matra MS10. The following year, Jackie Stewart and Tyrrell would win the World Championship with the Matra MS80. The author conveys all the excitement of these heady days in both words and illustrations. The book also describes the transition from other manufacturers’ cars to one developed by Tyrrell itself which opened the 1970s with instant success, winning both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships in 1971. Over the next two years, the Tyrrell team won nine Grands Prix. David Oliver also details the relative decline of Tyrrell as wins were fewer and farther between over the next decade. Its last Grand Prix win was in 1983 and by 1998 Tyrrell had stopped competing under its own name. However, this book demonstrates that its legacy is still seen in the Mercedes-AMG F1 team today. Including unique contributions from Jackie Stewart and Bob and Kenneth Tyrrell and illustrated with 180 official photographs, this is the definitive concise story of Tyrrell Racing.

A successful example of European co-operation, the Tornado multi-role strike aircraft was designed to meet a 1968 specification for a two-seat Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MRCA) and developed by the international Panavia Aircraft consortium owned jointly by British Aerospace, Germany’s MBB and Italy’s Aeritalia. First flown in August 1974, the twin-turbojet-powered two-seat aircraft with a variable geometry wing entered service with the Royal Air Force, the German Luftwaffe and Marineflieger and the Italian Aeronautica Militare Italiana in the 1980s at the height of the Cold War. The RAF Tornado GRs achieved thirty-eight years of unbroken service deployed on various conflicts with NATO allies including operations in the Gulf, Afghanistan, the Balkans, Libya and Syria before being withdrawn from service in 2019. German and Italian Tornados continue anti-ISIL operations over Syria and Iraq. A total of 940 Tornados were produced including 96 for Saudi Arabia and Air Defence Variants, plus 9 prototypes and 6 pre-production aircraft. More than 200 remain in service in 2024. Written by aviation expert David Oliver, this well-informed and readable book, accompanied by 200 illustrations, covers the Tornado’s development, production, service in the RAF, German, Italian and Saudi Arabian air forces, as well as operations in the Gulf, Afghanistan, the Balkans, Libya, Syria and Yemen.

This book describes one of the world’s longest serving and most widely used military helicopters. Developed in the 1960s by the Soviet Union as a fire-support helicopter, more than 2,000 have been produced and continue in production today. Given the codename ‘Hind’ by NATO in the Cold War years, this fearsome helicopter is also known by other names by those who have either operated it or who had had to deal with it. The Mujahideen guerrillas described it as the ‘Devil’s Chariot’ during its deployment to Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion and occupation between 1979 and 1989. The Hind has also been used operationally in Chad, Nicaragua, Angola, Chechnya, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Nigeria, Mali and Ukraine. The Hind remains in service with more than twenty countries, including former Soviet bloc countries such as the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Serbia, which are now part of NATO. The book covers the development of the helicopter as well as its deployments in both the Cold War and recent and current operations. The book is written by an acknowledged aircraft expert and accompanied by original photography.

Designed and produced by North American Aviation in response to a British order for aircraft in 1940, the P-51 Mustang went on to become one of the most successful aircraft in the Second World War and beyond. In this fascinating book, aircraft expert David Oliver tells the story of this innovative and adaptable aircraft, from the early versions used by the RAF as low-level reconnaissance aircraft to the long-range USAAF fighters that accompanied US daylight bombers over Germany. The Mustang was also used by numerous other air forces. The author shows how, from its inception, the Mustang included innovative features such as a low-drag laminar-flow wing and a low-drag engine-cooling system. Beginning with an Allison engine, early versions of the Mustang were used by the RAF for low-level reconnaissance missions. Later versions, fitted with the more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, were capable of high-level combat missions against the best German fighters. Mustangs were also employed in ground-attack and ‘tankbusting’ missions. Accompanied by a wide variety of colour and black and white images, this highly readable and informed book is an essential briefing on a remarkable aircraft.

Many people understand that, at the end of all things, Christ returns, God will create a new heaven and a new earth where those who have trusted in Christ will live with him for ever. But what about those who have “passed on” well before this? Where are they now? What does heaven look like? What will occupy us there? When David Oliver faced the death of his son Joel, at the age of 38, following a short and brutal fight with cancer, he set about researching and writing this powerful short book on heaven and committed to write whatever he discovered. Through a thorough examination of the relevant Bible texts, David provides us with a thrilling view of the future and a destiny well worth preparing for, which will enrich our vision and faith.

The Aerospatiale/Westland Gazelle is one of the longest serving and most successful reconnaissance and light attack elicopters. The Gazelle soon made an impression with its high speed, smooth looks and design innovations such as the Fenestron ducted tail rotor and composite main rotor blades. In this readable book, aviation expert David Oliver tells the full story of the development of the Gazelle as well as its various air force, military and naval roles and deployments. Once Westland had joined the French helicopter project, the Gazelle was soon adopted as a trainer by the RAF, as a battlefield reconnaissance and attack helicopter by the Army Air Corps and Royal Marines and as a training helicopter by the Royal Navy. It carried out similar roles in the French armed forces and those of other nations. As this book shows, armed variants of the Gazelle have taken part in conflicts in the Falklands, Northern Ireland, Lebanon, the Gulf War, former Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Mali and Syria. It has also been adapted for civilian roles. As a testament to its success, Gazelle helicopters will continue in service with the British and French armed forces beyond 2020. Illustrated with lavish colour photographs, this book is an essential guide to one of the world’s most successful military and civilian helicopters.

The iconic Hawker-Siddeley Harrier was designed to fight the Cold War from the fields of West Germany but won its battle spurs in the Falklands, Belize and Afghanistan. It was controversially scrapped by the British Government fifty years after entering service with the RAF and its loss raised serious questions over Royal Navy fleet protection. This book not only describes the aircraft and its operations but includes quotes from the pilots who flew and fought in it. Author David Oliver describes the development and production of the Harrier from the original Kestrel project, which was the only successful attempt at a vertical take-off and landing aircraft at the time. He follows the Harrier into service with the RAF and also covers the development of the Sea Harrier, with its special characteristics and its extraordinarily successful performance in the Falklands War where its unique engine made it an agile fighter. He also describes the use of the Harrier in other deployments such as Belize and Afghanistan, covers Anglo-US developments and examines the legacy of the Harrier in the shape of the F-35B Lightning II multi-role fighter.

Do we regard our place of work as a prison? Is our place of work where we fulfil God's purpose for our life? Should church leaders consider returning to work? Is full-time ministry a heresy? This book is for every working man, woman and church leader: to challenge what we believe, what we preach, the language that we use and the way we behave, and to help us bring about a change in 'doing church' - where the church supports the workers as well as the workers the church.

I have taken the occasion of a second edition for enhancements and re?- ments that preserve the spirit of the original. I have more fully portrayed the remarkable relationships between symmetry group generators and their Lie bracket and the dynamical invariants of those symmetries and their Poisson bracket in Chapter 3. The radical departure of quantum waves from classical waves is more sharply drawn in Chapter 5. The spectacular way in which the states of the hydrogen atom unfold from its symmetries is the centerpiece of qu- tum Kepler motion. I now lead readers more deliberately through this unfolding by showing how the master quantum number orchestrating fo- dimensional rotational symmetry orchestrates the hydrogen atom states. I o?er readers in Chapter 7 a more descriptive portrait of the break-up of regular Kepler motion on tori into periodic resonant points when the motion becomes chaotic. And I now include a sketch of KAM Theory— thegreatestachievementincelestialmechanicsofthetwentiethcentury—in properly?llingoutthestoryofchaoticKeplermotion. Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive condition that damages the nervous system, leaving muscles wasted and weak, and causing loss of mobility, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing. MND tends to affect people over 40 and is most common between the ages of 50 and 70. There are about 5,000 people with MND at any one time in the UK. The cause remains a mystery and there is no cure. The third edition of this book gives a full update of treatments and resources available to help those diagnosed live life to the full. Topics include what the disease is, what the doctors will do, and how to cope with the difficulties. This new edition also examines possible dietary factors in causing the disease, the latest on benefits, and up to date thinking on drug trials. Dr David Oliver, a leading expert on MND, shows how to treat not just the physical effects but also the emotional ones for the whole family. Dr Oliver also explains the vital role of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
