Roger McLaren - ex computer salesman, erstwhile impersonator, now a part-time SIS agent, and successful novelist - is en route to visit ex school-pal, Tony Higgins, in Perth, Western Australia; a holiday during which he hopes to recover from the effects of a previous "mission" during which his girlfriend was killed. Having opted for a "recommended" Singapore stopover en route, he soon discovers his life is again being manipulated. During his brief sojourn on the island nation, Roger - by result of an apparent mistaken identity - suddenly finds himself to be in possession of a large quantity of heroin, by means of which he is coerced into assisting the Australian Federal Police (Narcotics Branch), in an attempt to close down an International drugs ring. His choices somewhat limited, he naturally opts for the latter as, in Roger's opinion, "Let's face it, life can become boring if you allow it to". The British SIS, with whom Roger has tenuous links, are also seen to be involved.Naturally, being Roger McLaren, the inevitable female companion pops up. In this instance, the stunning Miss Judy Kimberley Hamilton, whom he meets by chance on the flight from Singapore to Perth. This turns out to be a rather fortuitous meeting, for Kimberley's father, Robert K Hamilton, chairman of Hamilton Industries Pty, would seem to be implicated in the very things in which Roger has an interest. At least, certain branches of his conglomerate would appear to be deeply involved, especially those linked to the ruthless Klaus Santana, and his "Claws", one of which is the seemingly psychopathic, Bruce Jones.Roger delivers the "package" upon arrival in Perth then, piecing together seemingly unrelated bits of data, an idea begins to form. Throw in the delightfully sexy Kimberley, a smattering of travel, technology, and intrigue, and Roger once more finds himself with his hands rather full.

Det är nästan så att man är frestad att utropa ”äntligen!” på känt Nobel-manér, när Taylors & Jones korvbok nu blivit verklighet.Fastfood MagazineDet är ett smart grepp att inleda någon i frestelse. Rakt in i den. Ica-Kuriren
111 Places in the Yorkshire Dales That You Shouldn't Miss
The Yorkshire Dales is a truly special corner of Britain, offering a glorious mix of beautiful countryside, charming villages and prosperous market towns. It’s a place to climb high peaks or venture deep underground, and to enjoy local arts and crafts, good food and locally made drinks. This book explores a quirkier side of the Dales and includes 11 carefully chosen walks to help you discover it on foot. Find out where a queen lost a valuable item of clothing, visit the world’s smallest art gallery, take on the Three Peaks Challenge, meet a jolly gang of scarecrows and learn how to forecast the weather the Yorkshire way. Along the way you can explore fictional villages and their real-life inspirations, meet a god trapped forever in stone, follow in Robin Hood’s footsteps (and perhaps glimpse his bare bottom), party like it’s 1959 in an authentic American diner and search for Yorkshire’s own Atlantis beneath a lake. Written by an author with deep local knowledge, this guide reveals the many hidden splendours of the Yorkshire Dales.
111 Places in Northumberland That You Shouldn't Miss
Northumberland is the ‘Land of the Far Horizon’ and England’s most northerly county. It was once a place of industrial innovation and manufacturing, literally fuelled by the coal brought up from its depths. Now Northumberland is a quieter place, loved by residents and visitors alike for its rolling hills and long, sandy beaches, as well as its charming towns and villages. With this book in hand, meet Grace Darling, a Victorian heroine who took to storm-tossed seas to help rescue survivors of a terrible shipwreck; visit Amble, the ‘Friendliest Port’, and discover its connection to the Mauretania, once the fastest passenger ship to sail the Atlantic; and take in Turner’s View, an atmospheric stretch of coastline that was a lifelong inspiration to Britain’s greatest landscape painter. You can also take a walk to the top of Cheviot, the county’s highest mountain and what was once a massive and very active volcano; and then top it off in the tranquil setting of St Cuthbert’s Island, where the eponymous saint went to get away from the strangely hectic whirl of monastic life. Written by a proud northerner, this book will help you discover the more offbeat corners of Northumberland, and appreciate its many treasures.

Happily, no lives have been lost so far on Eclipso's worldwide search for a surviving non-avian dinosaur. But is that about to change in Pembrokeshire, Wales? Locals are vanishing one by one, with a blood-soaked shirt and shoe left behind. It's the wildest quest yet, as one of Eclipso's own becomes a suspect...and evidence mounts that multiple prehistoric beasts, or a serial killer, might be roaming the Welsh coastline. Bonsai Gator is going to have a tough time reggae dancing his way out of this one

This inevitably controversial new work casts entirely new light on who wrote the Shakespeare plays. The Shakespeare authorship question is the longest running and most heated literary controversy in history. In a major new contribution David Taylor offers a comprehensive review of how and why the man from Stratford-upon-Avon became accepted as the sole playwright. However, he shows that the First Folio of 1623 includes a surprising number of contentious statements, which in fact undermine claims made for the man from Stratford as the sole author.Modern research strengthens such scholarly queries. New 'attribution research' has revealed that he had several collaborators, with about a third of his plays being co-written. Taylor investigates who were his collaborators or partners. He shows that disguised authorship was normal then.Hidden meanings, codes, devices and emblem books were much used. He has identified such a cipher system in the First Folio's Dedicatory Epistle and found written confirmation of its use. This distinctive message is supported amongst other evidence by the allusive imagery in Love's Labour's Lost, the first play to carry Shakespeare's name. Taylor has identified 'the silent partner.'
111 Places in the Scottish Highlands That You Shouldn't Miss
The Scottish Highlands are at the most northerly extreme of mainland Britain. The region was once a place of turmoil and bloodshed, of clan warfare and royal misadventure. Now the Highlands are somewhere to explore at leisure. It is a place rich in history, a land of hills and craggy mountains, of secluded coves and sandy beaches, and appealing towns and villages. With this book as your guide, meet Felicity, a large and friendly puma; learn the rules of Shinty, a unique and popular Highland sport; sit in the shade of Europe’s oldest living tree; take a turn around the Devil’s Elbow, if you dare; find yourself at the very centre of Scotland; visit a fairy village; take a stroll around an impossible garden; and shake it all about at the Earthquake House. Written by someone who loves the Scottish Highlands whatever the weather, this book will help you explore this wonderfully beautiful region.

Winner of the Saltire Society Scottish History Book of the Year Award Badenoch today is a landscape of empty glens and ruined settlements, but it was not always so. This book examines the transformative events that shaped the region’s destiny: climate and market forces, hunger and relief measures, sheep farms and sporting estates, agricultural improvement and proprietorial greed, and the evolution of clanship. Although this is an intensely localised study, the dramatic nature of change is explored against the wider context of events not just across the Highlands, but also within the British state and its global empire. Badenoch’s journey moves from the relative prosperity of the Napoleonic Wars into the terrible post-war destitution that devastated peasant, tacksman and Duke of Gordon alike. Estate reform and ‘improvement’ gradually brought a degree of economic and social stability, but inevitably resulted in depopulation as people were forced off the land to seek refuge in the impoverished ‘planned villages’ or to abandon their Gaelic homeland for life in the Lowlands. For those with the means, however, emigration provided lucrative opportunities unimaginable at home. Through extensive use of documentary evidence, much of it previously unseen, David Taylor paints an intimate portrait of the historically neglected region of Badenoch – one that provides a compelling new perspective on Highland history.
