With annual gross sales surpassing 100 billion U.S. dollars each of the last two years, the digital games industry may one day challenge theatrical-release movies as the highest-grossing entertainment media in the world. In their examination of the tremendous cultural influence of digital games, Daniel Reardon and David Wright analyze three companies that have shaped the industry: Bethesda, located in Rockville, Maryland, USA; BioWare in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; and CD Projekt Red in Warsaw, Poland. Each company has used social media and technical content in the games to promote players’ belief that players control the companies’ game narratives. The result has been at times explosive, as empowered players often attempted to co-op the creative processes of games through discussion board forum demands, fund-raising campaigns to persuade companies to change or add game content, and modifications (“modding”) of the games through fan-created downloads. The result has changed the way we understand the interactive nature of digital games and the power of fan culture to shape those games.
Modelling Historic Buildings and Imaginary Structures
This book demonstrates the many different modelling techniques used in the creation of realistic historical buildings and convincing imaginary or fantasy structures. Aimed at the railway and diorama modeller, it includes photographs of existing structures, detailed illustrations and plans, followed by step-by-step photographs of the various stages in their creation; practical tips and constructive advice are provided alongside. Special emphasis has been placed on the use of scrap and low-cost materials. It gives guidance on modelling imaginary buildings and structures, with an example project presented from start to finish and also a complete fantasy-based model railway diorama, from concept and design through to the completed layout is covered. The author has written this book to inspire the modeller to try something innovative, and to attract new entrants to this creative hobby. Drawing on his own experience, he shares practical guidance to help the reader to produce models they will be proud of.

When the CBC organized a national contest to identify the greatest Canadian of all time, few were surprised when the father of Medicare, Tommy Douglas, won by a large margin: Medicare is central to Canadian identity. Yet focusing on Douglas and his fight for social justice obscures other important aspects of the construction of Canada's national health insurance - especially its longstanding dependence on immigrant doctors.Foreign Practices reconsiders the early history of Medicare through the stories of foreign-trained doctors who entered the country in the three decades after the Second World War. By making strategic use of oral history, analyzing contemporary medical debates, and reconstructing doctors' life histories, Sasha Mullally and David Wright demonstrate that foreign doctors arrived by the hundreds at a pivotal moment for health care services. Just as Medicare was launched, Canada began to prioritize "highly skilled manpower" when admitting newcomers, a novel policy that drew thousands of professionals from around the world. Doctors from India and Iran, Haiti and Hong Kong, and Romania and the Republic of South Africa would fundamentally transform the medical landscape of the country.Charting the fascinating history of physician immigration to Canada, and the ethical debates it provoked, Foreign Practices places the Canadian experience within a wider context of global migration after the Second World War.

My reason for writing this book was to have something to do after I got fired from C.W. Post. It was one in a long line of failed jobs over the years. The theme of luck grew out of the fact that through all the job losses there was Millie, my wife, and how having her in my life was a stroke of luck. All the things that happen in your life, good and bad, have a tinge of luck attached to them. By putting things into perspective I was able to cope with what was going on in my life and make peace with it. Ultimately this book is about luck; what it is and how it affects the way one handles life. I was able pour my feelings out and express what I was going through each and every day I was out of work. Writing is a good way to reflect on your life and to examine what role you have in how your life is going. I hope you find it funny as well as poignant and maybe you'll find some good luck in your life after reading it.

The less is more philosophy is central to the minimalism movement today, and it's where it resonates with veganism. If minimalism is concerned with living with less for your spiritual wellbeing, then that extends to the impact you have on the environment as well. Minimalists consume less and buy less, meaning that their eco-footprints are lighter; but eliminating your consumption of animal-derived products is one of the most significant ways of reducing your eco-footprint, as animal products have greater emissions than plant-based products per unit of weight. In addition, if you want your lifestyle to bring the most meaning it possibly can to your life, then the ill-treatment and abuse of animals in various exploitative industries isn't going to bring you any joy. Most vegans are interested in environmental issues, as the ecological benefits of a vegan lifestyle are often significant imperatives to individuals making the transition. So, minimalism often appeals to those of those who want to live our lives as cleanly and simplistically as possible. In this book, you'll learn about -Minimalism and Veganism-Benefits of a Minimalist Plant-Based Lifestyle-Food to Have or Not On a Minimalist Vegan Diet-Minimalist Vegan Recipes
Shaping Successful Junior Swimmers

Shaping Successful Junior Swimmers

David Wright

Meyer Meyer Sport (UK) Ltd

For three decades, David Wright has coached international swimmers who began their swimming careers in his Learn to Swim program, and this book is based on his experience guiding these swimmers. Wright saw many pitfalls that resulted in the sport losing 80% of its participants in their early teenage years—pitfalls that resulted in swimmers ending their careers broken and disillusioned. Shaping Successful Junior Swimmers examines the nature of the sport’s early dropout rate and proposes steps to correct the problem. It discusses qualities that should be present in good conditioning and speed training programs as well as why these qualities encourage continued participation and championship performance. Also included are danger signs of poor programs that cause early dropout. In addition to important training factors are the decisions and behavior outside the pool that coaches, parents, administrators, and national federations can make and do to extend and improve every swimmer’s involvement in the sport. Swimming champions are the product of good care in and out of the pool, and using this book provides the means for that good care.
The Different Levels of Love, Volume 1

The Different Levels of Love, Volume 1

In my life, I have wrestled with my thoughts to understand love. I now realize there are different levels of such and that no two loves are the same. These volumes of poetry are a reflection of what I feel and experience when I close my eyes and think of love, poems reflecting one woman that I may have loved and lost or even one woman that I had and abused. With my eyes closed, oftentimes I have been directed as to what I write. Please remember, that when sharing I do not always speak from a personal point of view; each poem is just an expression of love felt at the stage it was in. As with the initial meeting, getting to know and falling in love fully are levels of love. Breaking up, coming to grips with this loss, and moving on should definitely be considered a part of love as well. Maybe, if we understood these levels better, we could respect them more fully. In doing so, we can possibly cause ourselves and those others that we come into contact with a lot less pain, grief, and sorrow. And we can bring a lot more love, love, love at whatever level of love we find ourselves in.

You are a seeker just like me. Well, what you are seeking is seeking you. We have no concept of the true capacity of our minds but it is our minds that produces, manifests and brings forth all that we see. It is said that we only utilize 10 percent of our brain power, but how is this possible? It is because our minds are closed. It is because we only believe what we have been told, and we only study that which we believe. Consider that children are free thinkers at birth, but through training, they experience a systematic wearing down of their thought process. I want to help you get back to the place of having "childlike faith," one that opens doors to the impossible.

How I See Life is the poetry that I have for my everyday life. I wanted this book to be felt as a friend who doesn't judge but only and always understands what you're going through. These poems are meant to help all of us to realize that it takes all kinds. If none were lost, who would need a savior? And if all were damned, how truly unloving and cold this world and all of us would be. It is okay to fear, but wrong to miss opportunities because you were afraid. It is okay to question your beliefs, but it's wrong to take another's word for what you could be instead of studying and finding out for yourself. How I See Life is for all to be entertained by, no matter your background in spirituality. I just want the reader to let himself be mentally free, to enjoy these words. Allow yourself to feel and to embrace whatever thoughts these poems inspire you to have. Deal with and explore the real you, outside of your bills and the monotonous stresses of each day. Be lighthearted in your assessments for a short time; just read poetry. Attempt to find yourself and get to know the real you We give such little thought to this statement-the real you. This book is meant to bring that person out, so you two can become better acquainted.
