Creative Evolution is a philosophical book written by Henri Bergson that explores the nature of evolution and the concept of life. The book argues that evolution is not a mechanistic process, but rather a creative one, driven by a vital impulse that is constantly pushing life forms to adapt and change. Bergson also critiques the idea of determinism in evolution, arguing that the future is not predetermined and that life has the ability to create new possibilities.Bergson uses a variety of examples, including the evolution of the eye and the development of human consciousness, to illustrate his ideas. He also discusses the relationship between science and philosophy, arguing that while science can provide valuable information about the material world, it cannot fully capture the complexity of life and consciousness.Overall, Creative Evolution is a thought-provoking and influential work that challenges traditional views of evolution and offers a new perspective on the nature of life. This Is A New Release Of The Original 1920 Edition. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. ""Time and Free Will: An Essay on the Immediate Data of Consciousness"" is a philosophical treatise written by French philosopher Henri Bergson. The book explores the concept of time and its relationship with human consciousness. Bergson argues that time cannot be measured or understood through scientific methods, but rather is a subjective experience that varies from person to person. He also argues that free will is an essential component of human consciousness and that it is not determined by external factors. The book delves into the nature of perception, memory, and intuition, and how they shape our understanding of time and reality. ""Time and Free Will"" is considered a seminal work in the field of philosophy and has influenced the work of many subsequent thinkers. This Is A New Release Of The Original 1913 Edition. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. In this book, Henri Bergson examines human consciousness and proposes that evolution is motivated by an lan vital-a vital impetus-that can also be understood as humanity's natural creative impulse. "All the living hold together, and all yield to the same tremendous push. The animal takes its stand on the plant, man bestrides animality, and the whole of humanity, in space and in time, is one immense army galloping beside and before and behind each of us in an overwhelming charge able to beat down every resistance and clear the most formidable obstacles, perhaps even death." (page 158) The book also considers perception of time. Bergson thought of time as a more individual subjective experience, as opposed to the familiar empirical concept. Bergson's philosophy went on to influence modernist writers such as Marcel Proust. Bergson's text was also added to the Catholic Church's list of banned books: "In the presence of the false theories of this new Bergsonian philosophy, which seeks to shatter grand fundamental principles and truths, it is necessary to unmask the poisonous error of philosophic modernism. It is the more destructive because it is sugar-coated, subtle, and seductive in nature." (Pope Saint Pius X in 1913) "A great 19th-century French philosopher ... ." Description Qu'est-ce qu'un jugement vrai?

The Creative Mind is a philosophical work written by the French philosopher Henri Bergson. Originally published in 1934, the book explores the nature of creativity and the creative process. Bergson argues that creativity is not simply a matter of individual genius, but is a fundamental aspect of life itself. He suggests that creativity arises from a tension between the past and the present, and that it is the result of a continual process of invention and adaptation.Bergson draws on a wide range of examples, from the arts to the sciences, to illustrate his ideas about creativity. He discusses the role of intuition and imagination in the creative process, and explores the relationship between creativity and the unconscious mind. He also considers the social and cultural factors that can either encourage or inhibit creativity.Throughout the book, Bergson emphasizes the importance of living in the present moment, and of being open to new experiences and ideas. He argues that creativity is not something that can be taught or learned, but is instead a natural expression of the human spirit.Overall, The Creative Mind is a thought-provoking and insightful exploration of one of the most fundamental aspects of human experience. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the nature of creativity, and in the ways in which we can cultivate it in ourselves and others. This is a new release of the original 1946 edition. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
