Mostly one-page shapes of contemporary language, each written at the beginning of the day, as a way of preparation for the 'unknown' to come of that day. Being shapely, they are also elemental. The first 49 are based on the element of fire, the other 51 are based on the element of water.

Two essays which explore the truth that we have it within us to join in the making of contemporary community even while we get to know ourselves and one another under the twin headings of 'communal' and 'human natural'. Specifically the aspect of our human nature that draws us to one another in compassion and kindliness is dealt with in the first essay. In the second essay what is shown is how people and populations who are becoming aware of the need to find an alternative to modern politics are in need of politicians who are willing to reinvent themselves as contemporary, even as the modern political approach draws to its end.

I mean the law as completed by the truth as it rules and regulates our growth as human beings, as guidance upon which we can depend and as limits within which we grow most fortuitously. When we say that we know the law, we mean at the same time that we abide by it. Therefore, at the heart of all our ambitions and achievements, we are ever reminded of the judgment with which we may align ourselves if we wish to do good.

A pandemic is an ideal time for us to question our feelings and thoughts in terms of fear and pain, of faith and hope, even of medication and meditation. What is touched on in these few occasional writings is the difference between reaction and response, the value we place on childlike faith, on growth as development and evolution and on human creativity. Unavoidably a few related issues rise to the surface. One purpose is to forestall panic by means of intelligent understanding. The reader is encouraged to place especial trust in his own human nature and in merciful spirit of love.

These poems are intended specifically as enablements of faith, not by form or content but in shape. They succeed best if appreciated with that in mind.

What counts is our relationship with one another and with good spirit. Today we are anxious to understand how we may come to terms with the end of the modern world and with what follows. This book presents us, in the first sixteen pages, with a list of topical suggestion, at times colloquially expressed, for reflection. Each of these may be referred to in the main body of the book, where the author makes available his own suggestions as to how we might approach what concerns us. The presentation of the material is neither systematic not trivial but draws on the life-experience and thought of the author. Dogmata, or opinions, are offered for reflection and discussion. They are not 'the truth' but as truthful as the author can make them. No attempt is made to challenge the time-honoured myths and superstitions of any tradition.

The cosmos, as described here, is the understood communal world and our position in it. It has nothing to do with the supposed beginning, middle and end of the modern universe. While reading this book we may imagine ourselves always just a little ahead of our present position as growing, creative human beings, so that our organic being is informed due to the reading process. The science is live, not extinct, and therefore not popular.

Incarnate spirit is with us and invites us to evolve for eternal life on earth. It does this at times when we least expect it. We may also know it as the son of man or as creative spirit. In order to accept the invitation we need to overcome our modernity. One of the three types of invitation we get, challenges us in terms of elemental experiences of earth. How these work and how we need to respond to them rather than misunderstanding them, is what is treated in the second half of this little essay.
