Es la primera novela del escritor alem n Thomas Mann, publicada en 1901, cuando su autor ten a solo veinticinco a os. La novela tuvo un xito rotundo, y en 1929 ya se hab an vendido m s de 185.000 ejemplares solo en ediciones en lengua alemana. El Premio Nobel a Mann en dicho a o le fue concedido, en palabras del jurado, "principalmente por su gran novela, Los Buddenbrook". Los Buddenbrook narra la decadencia de una pr spera familia de comerciantes de L beck entre los a os1835 y 1877, abarcando cuatro generaciones de la familia.

La monta a m gica (Der Zauberberg, en el original alem n) es una novela de Thomas Mann que se public en 1924. Es considerada la novela m s importante de su autor y un cl sico de la literatura en lengua alemana del siglo XX que ha sido traducido a numerosos idiomas.Thomas Mann comenz a escribir la novela en 1912, a ra z de una visita a su esposa en el Sanatorio Wald de Davos en el que se encontraba internada. La concibi inicialmente como una novela corta, pero el proyecto fue creciendo con el tiempo hasta convertirse en una obra mucho m s extensa. La obra narra la estancia de su protagonista principal, el joven Hans Castorp, en un sanatorio de los Alpes suizos al que inicialmente hab a llegado nicamente como visitante. La obra ha sido calificada de novela filos fica, porque, aunque se ajusta al molde gen rico del Bildungsroman o novela de aprendizaje, introduce reflexiones sobre los temas m s variados, tanto a cargo del narrador como de los personajes (especialmente Naphta y Settembrini, los encargados de la educaci n del protagonista). Entre estos temas ocupa un lugar preponderante el del "tiempo", hasta el punto de que el propio autor la calific de "novela del tiempo" (Zeitroman), pero tambi n se dedican muchas p ginas a discutir sobre la enfermedad, la muerte, la est tica o la pol tica.La novela ha sido vista como un vasto fresco del decadente modo de vida de la burgues a europea en los a os anteriores a la Primera Guerra Mundial.

Doktor Faustus, Thomas Manns roman om den framstående tonsättaren Adrian Leverkühn som ingår ett avtal med djävulen för att få förbli konstnärligt nyskapande under en lång följd av år, kommer nu i ny översättning.
